oh yeah I forgot to mention my legend had 255,000 miles (our family was the only owner and it was babied) and still ran like the day we brought it home (the tranny shifting hard was alwyas there) .

Its funny that the topic of the hard 1-2 shift comes up with the Legend. I think that was the only real "problem" that the Legend had from the beginning. Honda always wrote it off as being "sporty" feeling.
So in the TL\CL they have a much smoother shifting tranny, meaning more slippage between shifts. More slippage puts more wear on the tranny and also raises the temp of the fluid. Perhaps trying to make the car shift too smoothly ended up being the downfall of the new trannys.
Just a thought.

an adult perspective
There have been far toooo many problems/complaints about the 2nd Gen CL's listed in the many threads within this forum for those of us (numbers unknown) who onced owned the original Acura not to notice. My '90 "L" was towed to the dealership only one time - that being because a seal in the slave cylinder gave out after 181K miles. Another problem I seemed to constantly have was with my electical system - probably due to an aftermarket system I had installed (hence the purchase of the "L" vice the "LS" since I couldn't justify the addit $2K for the bose upgrade ... especially when I could get leather for no addit money in the "L"). The tranny problem which seems to currently plagued the marque is going to rank right up there with the "Un-intended acceleration" issues that nearly killed Audi in the states back in the 80's. It has been asked in other threads - what would you do to improve upon the current CL "IF" it isn't totally discontinued. My comment then, as it is now, would be to ensure that there is a label somewhere within the car which reads "Country of Manufacture - JAPAN". Had ACURA not teased us with the replacement for the G2 Legend, the '95 CLX concept car (which unfortunately became the 1st gen CL - which I still refer to as a Genuine Honda Accord UPGRADE), I would have probably not purchased my M3 in '98 but would have traded my 90 "L" for a last year 6spd G2 Legend Coupe. Granted, the price difference in '91 dollars was a bit of a shock considering what the g1 Legends sold for, but hindsight is 20/20.
