Wich is a better satellite radio:XM or sirrus

I think Sirrus has better rap and dance chanels. butI havent really got a chance to listen to them that much.

I also heard that sirrus is not doing as good as XM and might go out of business eventually.

well if sirius can stay afloat, its much better. sirius has no commercials while xm does. I mostly listen to the rap and hip hop channels, and they are really good. They are located in manhattan and all sorts of people do in studio concerts and just stop by...and they have all the best DJ's. The rock channels are pretty good too, there is something for whatever you want. I like that you can listen to headline news too.

I'm really happy with my sirius...I don't know if the $$ rumors are true about them going out of business.

welp i've HEARD people say that sirius is a bit compressed.....but it has no commericals......XM is better sound but has commercials.....

i would go with Sirius just cause i don't want to support things where i pay money to get rid of commericals and still have listen to them....

actually sirius sounds better. they use a technology that uses a compression technology to give you the entire bandwith of music.

Neither.

XM is the only one I've experienced and I was less than thrilled with the quality of the sound and also 99% of the stations would be a waste of money for me.

Paying a monthly fee for radio in my car is about as logical as paying a monthly fee to play a game online. There are so many better alternatives it's pointless to me.

Car audio? Local (DC area) morning show on the days I'm up early enough to listen to it, or CDs I've made myself or bought.

Games? Any of the many games you don't have to pay monthly fees to play online.

do you not get cable either? sure you can get basic stations for free but they suck. 12 bucks a month is worth it for sirius definitely.

you get live djs and all sorts of music you dont' normally hear. you get talk and sports and comedy channels...hell you can listen to the discovery channel with it.

its fantastic.

and as for receivers...just don't get kenwoods. the new ones are miserable (except for the kvt 911)

Yes, I get cable... and cable Internet.

Most of the stuff on the radio sucks ass anyway. Music you don't normally hear on the radio I already listen to on CDs.
I certainly wouldn't want to pay for it again. And I also wouldn't want to pay to listen to music I've already purchased and/or compiled.

Heck I could get an iPod and an Aux connector and stick this on it:

And more since that's only about 9.xGB and iPods can handle up to... what's the big one now, 40GB?

Yeah.

I will prob. get the audiovox head unit.
A cool feature lets you store the title to a song you like by hitting the memory button.

I have dial up (i am kinda in the country) so I cant download a lot.
and besides how would you even know what to download if it wasnt for the radio?

You pay for cable and get the cable only channels too like TNN and such... and they have commercials!!! OMG.... you should tear out your cable connection!!! tool.

If you're going to invest in a head unit that supports satellite radio it might be wise to consider the company's financial standing.

i have xm, and here's what i think. if you're into rock - go with xm. if you're into dance, rap or sports radio - go with sirius. sirius got a 100% trance channel and another 3 really good dance channels. xm has only 3 dance channels and they suck most of the time. you can sample both on their websites. the sound quality of both is almost identical. xm has more base and less highs and sirius has a little less base and much better highs. both sound similar to 128Kbs MP3 streams (a lot worse than CD but much better than fm). Obviously you'll get a better sound with a whole xm(or sirius)-ready headunit than with add-on standalone unit that you'd have to plug in using aux inputs to your existing stereo. i'm thinking about switching to sirius as soon as my 3 free months run out, unless xm changes their dance line-up until then. as far as the $$ situation - xm has 1,000,000 subscribers and sirius (i think) has something like 60,000, but they are catching up. and finally, only a few xm channels have commercials. most of them are still commercial-free. the channels that do only run them about 2-3 min per hour, compared to 20/hour on fm. xm is $10/mo and sirius is 12.

I don't find out what to download from the radio. I find out from forums like this where someone knows about an upcoming album or spreads word of mouth that something is good.

Or specific websites for music that's not on the radio.

www.bassdrive.com
www.digitallyimported.com
www.tranceaddict.com
etc

GoldieAlek - I don't have an iPod, but there are ways to connect it. Tape adaptors and fm transmitters are okay if you don't care about crappy audio quality, but the best way to do it is with an AUX connector that you can hook into the back of most head units.

For example it was asked and answered here:

I don't see how satellite radio is the answer to getting your 80GB of music into your car stereo system.

Exactly its absolutely not…but bunch of people in office have it and bragging about it so I’m looking into it. But it’s a shame to leave all that stuff sitting on my pc.

How many rap and trance-house-dance channels each one has ?
That’s all I listen to

SIRIUS vs XM ?

I use the Blitzsafe adapter along with quite a few others on this site. It is plug and play into the back of our Stock head unit using the Aux-CD changer connector.

Clean out your PM GoldieAlek, in the meanwhile

Do a search on ACL for Blitzsafe Adapter. I forgot the exact URL for the website.

The installation isn't too bad, just taking apart the arm rest towards the radio. There isn't any wires to cut. It plugs right in. All you need is a screwdriver.

this is the on I wanted you plug it in the ciggerate lighter or aux output
this would decrease the sound quality?
I dont want to get a whole new cd player because I would mess up my wood grain and then I wouldnt be able to use my 6 disc changer right?
