Why has no-one on this site installed the S/C yet ?!
After over 300,000 posts on this site I find it really bizarre that no-one has yet installed the Comptech Supercharger you were all apparently pining for. OK, I realize that most CL-S's are autos, but come on you 6-speeders....

Safety Car
Very true
I'd say 50% can be attributed to the economy. Disposable income is significantly less than it was, say 2-3 years ago when stock options and bonusses played life to a different tune. We were easily making 2x to 3x our salaries every year. Hell... I was 24 years old when I bought my NSX... 1.5 years out of college!
It's definately a wake-up call nowadays... and concepts such as budgeting, retirement savings etc. come to play.
I think we'll all be fine... just got to be a little smarter than before and learn from our lessons.
Anyways... back to the S/C's. You'll see more folks buying them after the tax season by Spring of 2003.

1. I think people are afraid of losing their warranties. 2. $ 5000. is alot of money to make an already fast car go a little faster.
I think rather than invest 5 grand, I'd problably get a different car if I was interested in more speed...but that's my opinion.

$5K for 60 bhp?? It is the value proposition, I think. I mean when you're goin' to get 35 bhp from the $1K headers why would you totally blow your warranty on a S/C that has no salvage value when you sell your car for the extra 25 bhp.
Economics usually rule.....
Plus with headers anything under $70K other than a Vete, Cobra or E46 M3 would be hot and sweaty trying to keep up with a 6-spd CL-S. With the headers the engine is already at 295 horses.....can you say N..S..X.
Peace dudes

Apparently, you are not very bright as you took that comment personally. Dont worry, we wont hold it against you. I wish I did not have to explain this, but here goes.
He did not state that we 'cant' afford a 330, he stated we did not want to afford one as we are (as a group) frugal, thus chose to go with a value buy in the CLS. Understand this and move on.
Disclaimer: We are also extremelly happy for anyone and everyone that can afford a 330 or a CLS or both. Thank you and good night.

Back to the SC thread. I don't quite get some of the comments about spending 5k for "only" 50 H.P. First, it's probably closer to 60 at the wheels for the 6 speed and that translates to over 70 at the crank. Hell, i gladly spent the extra 2k to upgrade to the Type S and the extra 35 ponies, the next best gains were Comptech headers for 1k and maybe 25 more ponies so there's 3k for 60 H.P. why not another 4k for another 70 ? Some people spend 2k on the navi, or 3-4k on heavier Bling Bling chromes that may slow the car down. To each his own, personally i don't know why one 6 speeder hasn't done it yet. You can never have too much H.P. as long as you've upgraded the suspension, rubber and brakes. Who knows on the tranny, many blown trannies are on cars driven by Grandmas, and some heavily modded and track run cars have no problems at all. I just wanna surprise the crap out of certain types of cars and see the look on their face when they get dusted by an Acura

If my car was paid off- I would consider it....Seeing as it is not--I could use that 5k for something like ...a new car downpayment- Or perhaps use it towards payoff on this one...But I seriously hope someone else does it soon, and posts! I will live vicariously (spelling?) through them...

Due to some recent good news and the processes which brought about this news, my buying decision has been put on hold. I am contemplating it, rather discussing it, and should have a solid decision in the next few days.
It is beginning to be a hard sell to my wife now considering we will be soon trading in her 328i for an X5 4.4i (no SS in the MDX killed that less costly possibility). Not to mention the other preparations. I'm just trying to come up with a compelling argument for needing the SC but I do feel a bit selfish pursuing it now considering...
As for the power gains, a simple way to look at it would be like this; every gears acceleration, no matter where you are at in the rev band, would be about the same as a stock vehicles next lower gear. In other words, an SC'd 3rd gear pull will be about the same as a stock 2nd gear pull.

One word... LEASED.
If I owned it outright, the $5k for a S/C is reasonable. I passed on the Nav, so for $32k I could have gotten a blown CL S. Put some real rubber and wheels on and for < $37 you have one hell of a "near-luxury" sleeper.

Safety Car
Hmm...
If my kit ends up working well, I might market it for about
$4K to $4.5K installed. Of course this is NOT CARB exempt, but it is an 'intercooled' system. It would have the following:
(1) T3/T4 Turbo
(2) Tial 35mm external wastegate (0.4 bar spring)
(3) In-tank fuel-pump
(4) Vortech FMU (or SFMU if needed)
(5) Blitz blow-off valve
(6) Mugen low-temp T-stat & Fan Switch
(7) Spearco Front-Mount Intercooler
(8) Autometer Boost-Guage + Pillat-mount guage pod
(9) MAP sensor boost eliminator
(10) Custom exhaust-piping and intercooler piping
Probably a 1-week turnaround time installed... any takers? This includes quite a few extras that the Comptech S/C doesn't offer... like the Mugen products, intercooler, boost-guage etc. Also... the potential to boost higher without buying a S/C pulley, belt etc.
It would be overkill to use the Turbo and Wastegate that I have because its a $1200 turbo and a $600 wastegate!

allmotor_2000... is your shop in Woodland Hills? Going to Vegas in March, if I get lucky maybe I'll say to hell w/ it and get a turbo installed and buy the lease out in the end. Nothing like the sound of turbos spinning up. ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
