It seems that all the car makers are using 6 speed instead of the ol 5 speed now. Is there a particular reason behind this?
I'm not just taking about honda/acura either

They are also cheaper to make, & maintain. For alot of years Auto's were in, & wanted. Now days the mighty manuals are retuning. Now with technology they can get to 6 speeds.

I think you will find a happy mix of both autos and manuals...
When I was 17, I thought anyone with an automatic had brain damage (or was "clutch impaired").
Other gear sets:
Current F1 Ferrari's run 7-gears (no clutch)
And "big rigs" (as in big trucks) have 13-speed gearboxes (big load and narrow power band).
Don't be surprised to see the auto and manuals "merge" in a few years into CVT and SMG transmissions (no clutch -- just like F1)
