when should i get my 1st oil change?
alright, i just brought my car into the honda dealer to get my first oil change, cause i was told you should get your first oil change at around 3500 miles. but when i talked to the serviceman he said that i should wait to get my first oil change untill about 7500 miles, because our cars have some kind of break-in oil, and it needs to be kept in there as you break in your car. and when it hits 7500 some service light appears. i'm confused. when is the recommended first oil change suppose to happen?

Although the service manual and the owner's manual state 7500 miles I suggest that you do it between 3 to 4 thousand miles.Mind you I work for a dealer in the New York tristate area so pretty much everyone falls into the category of severe duty.Road speeds around here can vary anywhere from dead stopped traffic jams to hundred mile an hour blasts where there is a hole in the traffic so a more frequent oil change approach is just a simple precaution against any future problems.Jens

I had mine done at 3,500. I was concerned about the engine running a little rougher than new, prior to that oil change. A 100 miles or so after the oil change, it smoothed out again. IMHO.

Try and hold out until at least 5000 miles. 4000 at the BARE minimum if you are driving in a cloud of dust everyday. The break-in oil should stay in at least 5000 miles IMHO. I left it in for 6500 miles.

I had my Mobil 1 put in at just over 4k. I was told to change the oil every 3750 miles with regular oil and a little less frequently with the synthetic.

OK, just a $0.02.
1. All of the dealers I've called so far have a different story. So, forget about that. If they all have a different story it is just like noise -- it cancels-out!
If you drive a car after the 600 mile break in at 2000 rpm day-in and day-out the engine is not getting the same break in as a car doing 3000-7000 rpm all of the time.
So, you figure Acura had to be conservative and account for grandma drivers. So, that high figure is probably for 2000 rpm or lower drivers. If the car is getting wailed on, it could easily get the same break in (as the 2000 rpm driver at 6000 miles) at 2000 miles.
Then, there is the factory book. If you don't put on at least 7500 miles in the year, and you don't do the oil change. The dealer and Acura care will say, "Always check your manual." Manual says to change the oil at 3750 in stop-and-go and 7500/year in freeway driving/etc.

I still dont understand why the owners manual doesnt specifically say not to change the oil before 3750 miles if its so freakin important. You think they would have mentioned it under the Break-in Period. Am I voiding the warranty if I do? I dont think so.

I had the same question, I just hit 1K and I called the dealer, they say 3750 for the first and then 7500 afterwards. I usually do mine hondas at 5000 miles. So should I do it at 3750 or 7500 ???
