wheel and tire Questions
questions for you guys....im looking into getting some new rims and tires...currently i have a comptech drop and factory wheels and tires....i know that the widest you can go with tires on our rims is 235....my question is can i put a 7.5 or 8 inch wide rim on a CL-S to be able to accomodate a 245 or 255 series tire???? i really want to go above and beyond a 235 width...also, if the only way to do this is to stay with a 17" diameter, im fine with that...id rather stick with a 17inch rim and have really wide tires than sacrafice width for useless diameter increase....let me know guys, i really want to find out if any of you have any experience in this before i sink money into a nice wheel and tire combo...id like to have 255's if possible or BIGGER!!!

Check out the Acura CL FAQ page for better feedback. Do a search on this site to find the URL.
Better yet, do a search on 245 or 255 on this site and check out if other people have this tire width and what they have to say.
On the FAQ site, it says 235/45/17 will rub with 8" rims with a comptech drop on the inside of the front wheel well when you turn.
A lot depends on the offset of your rim as well. I can say that 225 wide tire with 8 inch wide rim and 45mm offset does not rub on my car with no drop.
Plus consider if you really want these wide 245+ tires protruding out from underneath your wheel well. That isn't a look I'd go for, and you'll rub like crazy from your fender over speed bumps and such.

IF you don't lower, this combination is currently working on my car and it is also working on cars that have Comptech springs and don't have KONI shocks: 235/45-17 97W Toyo T1S Proxies on SSR Competition 17x8 +48 offset rims.
There was a person that rubbed with the Konis (I think a set of bump stops would be needed to cure this) He ended-up going with 225/45-17 Toyos (all tires are a bit different).
So, there is a member who IS NOT LOWERED WITH:
17x8 +48 offset SSR Competitions (same wheels) and he is running:
245/40ZR-17 95W Toyo T1S Proxies.
The 245/40-17s run about 3% hot (the speedo will show about 60 when you are doing around 58 MPH.
The "effective torque" to the road will improve acceleration by 3%.
No person has tested this combo with lowering springs!!!!!!!
I am going to consider this setup if I still remain unlowered...
