Honda PGM-FI

Short take on the info -

Honda's Programmed Fuel Injection system was developed for Formula One competitions. It is a mechanism of delivering a calculated amount of fuel into the engine. This provides sporty yet economical performance. PGM-FI maintains the perfect balance of performance and efficiency. In simple words we can define it as Forced Injection or fuel through Electronic Control Unit (ECU).

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CARBURETTOR AND PGM-Fi.
In the conventional carburettor system, air is sucked due to vacuum developed by the pistons and air on its way through carburettor takes off the fuel from fuel lines in proper ratio.
Where as in PGM-Fi the whole system is monitored and controlled by Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which sense the engine rpm, speed, temperature, intake air pressure and other parameters with the help of sensors, installed at various locations of engine and then maintain the air/fuel mixture ratio by controlling the fuel injections and air control valve.
The normal air/fuel mixture ratio is 1:14 but it continuously varies according to the engine load and speed.
The fuel injection timing and duration is controlled by ECU with the help of distributor sensor and air pressure sensor.
