what's the proper K&N air filter part number to 01 CLS Auto?

I want to buy one but some websites are showing different part numbers. K&N web site shows 33-2178. I saw 33-2133 also on most of them. Which one is right for 2001 CLS?

You can do a lookup here (by make and model):

http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/knfilters/start?r=ajusa

Looks like the 33-2178 is the one for 2001-2003 CLS's

If you want one, I have one that I pulled out of my car due to supercharging my CL-S 6 speed about 1.5 months ago. The filter is brand new. It has about 8k miles on it and my car has 13786 miles. Let me know if you are interested in a semi used one. I have original box and instructions. Also I will clean it and re oil filter if you chose to buy it.

If i'm not mistaken:
33-2133 is for CL-P and
33-2178 is for CL-S

It's a pain in the ass, but it will fit...

I had to snake one arm around to grab the cover where the clip is, and push down on the cover while pushing towards the engine with the the other hand. Wiggling the cover will help.

Make sure the filter is in flush (I had a bit of trouble even with it in correctly) or ask someone to help... It's *almost* a 3 hand job, but I did it with 2...

I had 3 guys with me trying to push the clip in at one point
But after more failure, i ended up shaving 1cm off the plastic edge of the filter facing the engine so the cover could actually fit on the filter and into those damn clips

I've got a 03 CLS 6spd, so yes, it's the 33-2178...

Only took me about 15 minutes total (had to find the 8mm socket). I did struggle with the rear clip for a couple of minutes. It's tight, but that's the way you want it

I didn't think of it, but maybe getting the rear clip to seat first and then the front one would work better

For me the rear clip wouldn't fit at all, regardless of how you angled or mashed it. Maybe the weather (in Canada) altered the plastic a bit. Hot summers, -30 celcius winters.

I put mine in just last night. I was thinking that I could use a screwdriver to leverage the slot on the bottom half over the tab on the top half....yeah, the slot snapped off. But it fits now Seems to be tight.

I did notice a slight whooshing sound when I turn the engine off. I associated this with "back-pressure" created when the vacume from the intake ceases. I hope I'm right about that.
