Toyo store in Atlanta said 235/45 would rub, so they wouldn't give the 500 mile test drive option to me. Mike, the moderator, has 235/45s and he has noticed they rub. I got the toyos at 225/45 x17. See my reply to Xephyr on "just got new tires". The way I push my CLS in corners - I like to be in a balanced slide - rubbing would be dangerous. Imagine sliding around a corner at 70 mph and you rub !!! I want no part of that. Be careful is my suggestion.

The pressure argument is a tough one. Hopefully EricL will chime in and give his 2 cents. I was running at stock 32PSI but EricL runs at 38-39. I have since raised the pressure to 36PSI and have noticed 2 things:
1) Car handles better
2) The tires don't look totally flat anymore

I run 39 PSI on my Toyos (see sig) -- and the tires wear well, don't rub and I like them....
Additional note: I do drive "at the limit" at times, and I have never had a "rub." I'm talking about hauling-ass at ridiculous speeds around corners, and I do inspect the tires CAREFULLY! I also like to drive slowly, so the tires get a mix of wear patterns -- so far the tires look very happy at the 39PSI...
Finally, the section width of the 235/45-17 tires on the 8" wide wheels is noticeably wider than they were on the stock rims!
