At what point do you stop modding?

i've had my CL for 6 years now and still love it, but it's old now. it's my daily driver and see's snow every year. it's getting up in mileage (245k KM or 147k miles) and has a bunch of door dings and a scratch or two. i keep telling myself i'll just drive it until it falls apart, but there's still a few things i never got around to and i still want to do them but i always ask myself 'do i want to drop $2-4k on an older car?' i've been thinking of replacing the suspension with some Tein coils, some new wheels and maybe a BBK. once i get a new car i'm still going to keep the CL.

what do you guys think? and when will you stop modding your CL?

It's really hard to stop modding this car. always something comes up. I won't get rid of my cl until it falls apart!!! even if i get a new car, i will keep my cls. so i don't think i'll stop modding my cl.

You stop modding when the car is totaled. As for suspension, I think I am gonna buy the ksport coilovers new from THmotorsports in a week or 2. If you enter their promo code they are 806$ shipped.

if the body is fairly rust-free then maybe just spend some $ to freshen up the exterior?? I like the drop you have now, and personally i'd only get a BBK if i drove the car really hard + often. I commute in my CL and i'm not hard on the brakes.

I know everyone says they're done modding at some point. I see it as a hobby, and if it's in your budget then it's okay. I try not to spend a ton on it....There are more important things to save or invest in first. I'm satisfied for now with my CL, but i of course have a list of things i'd "like" to do in the future.

Yeah, I wouldn't put money you don't have into the car, but if you're comfortable dropping a few thousand here and there you should! Like you, I don't see a point in selling the car with resales values where they're at. I can't believe that a CL-S6 is only marginally more than an old Integra GSR!! I will continue to do minor mods as people find creative ways to improve our cars. With the aftermarket products growing for our cars, I can see spending plenty more in the years to come!

If you plan on keeping it, tasteful and useful upgrades will make you enjoy it that much longer. Get the door dings removed and a good detail done. Your car will look brand new.

As for when to stop, when you have an auto. I stopped a long time ago.

You're never done modding, if you are, it's time for a new car.

I've had my car for 3.5 years and I've been modding since. I always say im done every few months but I always run across something. Sometimes you get deals you cant pass up. Like my 03 tail and headlights. And just recently I picked up a front TL lip. If you said I would put one on my car 6 months ago, I would have told you my tranny would probably go out before I do.

Ditto . . I've modded a car right up until it rolls over and dies . . or I get tired of it. Seems there's always some new mod or trick coming out that needs to be tested.

If youre truly going to keep it, do what you want to it. Sparkle pain, gold spoked wheels, whatever. Just dont go bankrupt doing it.

I've been done for a while. Just maintenance I do now. I really regret putting the RT cat on my car. I really hate it. I want a stock one. It's too aggressive. I will be swapping it soon.

i think i'm going to get the Coils and wheels. the H&R drop i currently have is nice, a billion times better than stock, but i want to drop it more plus i think my struts are on its way out. i'm going to skip the BBK for now though.

my gf is going to kill me b/c she wants to get married in the next year or so and she's probably going to consider this wedding money gone wrong

What is it about the cat exactly you dont like. is it the slight drone you get at 2k rpm. I installed mine a few weeks ago and i would prefer no drone at all but it isnt enough to bother me.

As for modding, I bought my car new in dec of 02 and that summer I put on shocks, springs, audio stuff, shift knob, pedals etc. My car was hit in a parking lot by some woman in a minivan who was talking on a phone and hit the gas instead of the brakes, flew the 2 foot high curb and smashed into my driver door. That incident and the following shitty bodywork I received and having to fight the bodyshop to redo stuff really turned me off from my car. I drove it just as a daily driver for the next 6 years. Then one day I was driving on the highway and honked at someone for cutting me off. The person decided to throw some hard object at my car from his window and put a huge dent on the side. Right after he swerved behind me and took the first exit so I never got his info. Then i decided i was finally going to remove my ugly pinstripe. I tried removing it but it seems the pinstripe ate through the clear coat and the paint. The top section of the door above the window, they usually have a sticker that covers that part of the metal. Well I guess they discontinued that sticker so acura just left mine as metal and didnt tell me it was discontinued. Over time that part or the door completely rusted and i had a hard time figuring out why. I ended up having a body shop repaint the whole car and paint the top door sections black for over $3k. Since this i have gone crazy and prob spent a total of 7-10k total in the last 5 months. I love my car again tho. Probably more than anyone should love a hunk of metal and plastic.

haha, i hear ya. I'm getting married in July and it was hard to convince her to let me do the lip kit over the winter. With the wedding, and kids in my near future, i'm sure I won't be doing a hell of a lot to the car. But yesterday she saw me pulling in the driveway and said she loves it and that it looked like a brand new car! phew!

For me,If this site was permently down,Interest in the car would probally stop or really slow.Because I don't know local people with cl's.Acura should contribute funds to this site.Since this site directly "kinda" reflects a bunch of sales I'm sure.I'm a victem of the azine money spending curse.I would shake everyones hand that has help me make decesions on mods directly and non-directly.But also would give the finger to the same people for help cleaning out my wallet.

If you venture over to off topic you'll notice that we arent exactly contributing to any new Acura sales

I do agree to a point that this site has made me spend a shit load of money. If this site werent around though, I never would have gotten the CL. Id have something else that has a forum dedicated to it, so either way Id be broke

same here...

When I first got my TL-S, I drove it stock for 2 years because I thought there were no mods for it... untill I found acurazine. Thats when shit started going down!

I look at modding my car as a hobby, I used to play AAA hockey as my hobby and when I stopped playing competitive, I stumbled across acurazine and started modding my car. Personally, I think you can learn alot about someone by what car they drive.

If you have the money to spend on your hobby then I say do it, but don't go in debt for a hobby.

You stop modding when you buy a sudo-luxary car that doesn't respond well to mods and you realize that it's not worth the cash.

Poppy-cock. You just pump more money into it to make it respond.

And even then it doesn't. As your sig says, WANT 363WHP? That's a lot of money for just 363WHP. Then you make HP and the CL-S can't do much with it.

Stop modding? Most likely never.
