What is overdrive???
Hello, this may be a stupid question but what is overdrive?? Trannies are always labelled "5 speed automatic with overdrive" and was wondering what the overdrive is. I searched on the web but couldent find any good page, just people selling overdrive trannies. thx for any info.

Working with Lumberg.
Simple explanation:
Overdrive is when the final drive it such that the engine is spinning slower than the wheels.
Most gears are the opposite so that power is increased by gear ratios. The final gear (or sometimed two final gears), will be overdrive gears to save gas...
