What is the open hole near air filter?

What is the open hole near air filter?
Behind the drivers headlight there is an open hole that sucks in air. Its right next to the air filter. What is that? Mine seems to be making a louder sound. I never noticed it before.

thats where the air gets drawn into the intake on the stock airbox

leak in the airbox? maybe you didnt tighten it down good enough around the filter or the resonator came loose, but I doubt that though.
