What Kind Of Oil

Hey guys Just recently purchased my car and its coming up on its first oil change. However, I dont know what oil would be best with it. Does anyone have any suggestions or could you all let me know what you are running in your 2nd gens?

Thanks,
Will

I would suggest Mobile 1 synthetic. My brother uses it in his TL, never had a problem.

Ralphie917 02-14-2008 12:50 AM

Ive been using royal purple, but i would assume that any quality synthetic oil is just as good...

mobil-1 since i bought it every 5000 miles

VIPCLS 02-14-2008 02:31 PM

Mobil clean 5k non synthetic

underst8 02-14-2008 03:08 PM

valvoline synpower here...but i agree any quality synthetic should do the job sufficiently.

spdy0001 02-14-2008 03:10 PM

Its best to use a precise mixture of canola oil and cat litter. It ensures proper wear of the components. If you don't have access to cat litter, saw dust should work as well

HondaVtec21 02-14-2008 03:13 PM

+1 for Mobile-1 Synthetic!!!!!!!!!!

Boeing747 02-14-2008 03:55 PM

any oil every 4000 miles. these honda engines are so durable.

x2 its pretty good. this is what most dealers use. My dealer does anyway.

I like it, i normally use Royal Purple in my cars, which is really good too.

And maybe i could run on water in the gas tank! Man Im going to convert that this weekend.

I'm going outside the norm & saying standard Acura 5W20 oil with an Acura filter.
Changed every 5K miles.

Don't forget a new crush washer.

Torqued properly you should never have to replace it. ( i was on the original leak free for over 210k)

fuzzy02CLS 02-27-2008 01:35 PM

It's recommended to replaced it per the factory manual & the owners manual at each change. They are only $0.20 each. You can get a lifetime supply for under $10.

Werd. Why bother risking it over a 20¢ part?

finkle22281 04-15-2008 12:48 PM

my buddy runs a good year shop....he claimes that you can put 20k miles on a car that has mobil-1 synthetic w/ a mobil-1 oil filter.

I didn't want to risk it...so I just use mobil-1 synthetic w/ a fram filter and change every 5k

TLy2522 04-15-2008 02:01 PM

change oil at every 5k???? isn't that a bit long?? i barely go over 3k.. i guess i just baby her!!

GreenMonster 04-15-2008 03:41 PM

I just do what the factory tells me... 5W20 every 7500 miles... anything more than that is like flushing money down the toilet :2cents:

And before anyone argues that point, show me the data to prove otherwise. I think Honda/Acura and it's engineers know a little about oil and engines.

piro91 04-15-2008 04:11 PM

every 5 thousand Km (Meiticulasly maintained)
regular dino juice -->not racing the car no need for Synthetic
HONDA oil filter
HONDA drain plug gasket ($0.50 insurance--> come on!?! no brainer)

RP+Mobile1 filter FTW....Picked up RP for $5.95 at Checkers autoparts. Just changed my oil @ 5000+ miles and the oil still looked clean! :tomato: I'm going to hold out to 7500mi til next oil change..........

Drain plug gaskets should always be replaced when doing oil changes! Like you said, "No brainer"

depends on what kind of oil/filter you use.

If you use the same oil Acura puts in the car w/ the Honda oil filter, you only need to change it every 7500.

Mobil-1 synthetic oil and oil filter are better than Honda's....so I'd say 5k if anything is way too soon....I'm probably wasting money.

GreenMonster 04-16-2008 07:12 AM

The drain interval for synthetics is even longer than dyno oil... so if you're draining your synthetic oil @3K you're definitely wasting money...

I used Mobil-1 on my last car because I was driving 65 miles one way to work and wanted an extended oil drain interval (didn't want to change the oil that often). I used to go 10K between changes and the oil still looked good at that drain interval.

There's been huge improvements in oil technology in the past 10 years, so the 3K oil change interval that your father used to follow isn't valid anymore. The oil change places still recoomend 3K so they can make more money off of you. Even the domestic automakers have upped the oil change intervals on their cars.

Now Mobil 1 Extended allows you to go up to 15K miles between drains...

Lots of good oil info over here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Not really considering the factory manual says 7500 on regular oil.

I ran/run 10 and 15k intervals with M1. Didnt burn any and the motor was in perfect shape at 210k

You do realize color really doesn't mean anything. If it weren't dark id be worried that it wasn't doing its job
