What is the deal with our cars and the oil weight?

Should we be using 5w-20 or 5w-30/10w-30? My oil cap prints 5-20, but in the manual it states 5w-30 or 10w-30. Another problem a live in the south region of Texas where the temp average 98F to 104F during the late spring and summer until about late october. Should I be using 5-40 or 10w-40 because of the heat factor. I feel that 5w-20 is dam thin and will not protect my engine. Where do you find 5-20 grade anyway?

I would stick with what the manual says. In our cases... the manual conflicts the oil cap. What you should do is run 5w30 due to the heat... that will be sufficient. 5w20 would probably be OK too.. but you're better safe then sorry....

To make things even MORE confusing, I think someone pointed out once that the 2003 CL has something different printed on the cap.

That’s why I pay my 24.95 to the dealer and let the “experts” worry about it.
