Went to the track last night...............
and i was very disappointed with my car's performance . It was the first time at the track. The temp at track was 76 degrees and 40% humidity. First, my car is all stock with exception for the headers (CT) and with 5286 miles on the clock. I have all the general stock spare parts in the trunk in addition to JL audio subbox. Track was somewhat damp from previous rain and traction was a bitch. Also I was nervous. Well, these were my different solo runs after getting killed by S2000 on my initial run where everthing went wrong. no traction, hit limiter twice and reaction time was patetic.
2nd run
RT ..758
60ft nothing on that line
660 nothing on that line
MPH 91.87
ET 15.881
3rd run
RT .825
60ft 2.709
660 nothing on that line
MPH 93.96
ET 15.458
4th run
RT 1.011
60ft nothing
660 nothing on that line
MPH 92.96
ET 15.429
5th run
RT .651
60ft 2.569
660 nothing on that line
MPH 93.96
ET 15.403
What the heck am I doing wrong? Should'nt I be able to get this car at least in the high 14s even stock. my tire pressure was 28 on the front and 32 on rear.

dvf,
you should but the thing is if traction was an issue...and it seems to be the case because your 60ft times are 2.5 and 2.7....that's horrid. What RPM did you launch from? Also, your time also depends on how "tuned" your ECU is. If you drive like a grandma all the time and then take it to the track don't expect to do well. Also the subs in the back don't help at all.
Traction is SO key. Cars with less HP will gain traction and pass cars with more hp and no traction.
I had similar issues with my previous tires. I couldn't grip at alll and so i'd spin through first.
Don't get too disappointed! Go back when the track is try.
Lower the front tire pressure down to 20 and jack the rear up to 40.
Your MPH is consistent so that's good.

what's killing you is your 60'. Just keep practicing your launch. I was launching at around 2500 RPM with my stock tires. Sorta feel out your clutch and tires and feather it a bit. What you're looking for is that first LEAP and squeal and then a catch. Once it catches you can mash down that little pedal on the right all you want. I was pulling shitty ass 2.4s last time I was at the track. I seemed to do better with my normal tire pressure just a tad lower. When I lowered it it seems my times increased quite a bit. It was my first time at the tracks too so I know what you mean. It just takes some getting used to is all.

if u can get your sixty foots down and catch a track on a better day there no reason why u cant get in the very low 14's or high 13's
remember to prep your car

you need to drop your tire pressure down further, or get rid of the stocks all together.
i pulled a 1.9 60' on friday night.

1.9 on a 6spd is next to impossible on the stock tires... a 2.1 if you drive really well.
A 0.5s improvement in the 60-foot usually translates to about a 0.7-0.8s improvement in the 1/4-mile.
Launch at 1.4K RPM and make sure the tires don't spin after 5K

i ran a 14.46 @ 95.xx.
the track was at 1400 ft. elev. and it shows in my trap speed. usually i trap 97-99 mph.
at sea level w/ more runs, i think i could have been in the 1's again.

wow, high 15s??? thats horrible. i never once ran slower than a 14.8 with my CL-S even stock....no offense, but maybe you just need to learn how to drive it better???? it must be the driver, that car is capable of mid-low 14s with headers and taking the shit out of the trunk.

did you bother the read the conditions???????? Moreover, until you drive a 6 speed at the track please......it's not the same as mashing the pedal.

hahaha, no. im not trying to say that, all im saying is that the conditions and the results are indicative of a (no offence to the thread starter) poor driver, or someone who needs to practice their shifting and launching. there are plenty members here who have 6 speeds that run kick ass times on stock tires so you cant blame it on that either. hell, my 14.3 and 14.4 times were on stock tires as were alot of other really good CL-S times, auto or 6 speed

the actual drag strip was blow dried, but where all the cars would line up to get to the staging area was wet, so the starting line and 150 ft ahead of the starting line was damp from cars rolling to the line. Also, its the only freaking track in Laredo and has the bare minimum to call it a track. It does not even have ET boards.

im not trying to impress you, all im saying is that your times were awful. and its not fair to put all the blame on the weather, mid 70s and 40% humidity isnt that bad. my 14.8 time was in an automatic CL-S in the IDENTICAL conditions. additionally, with the modification of headers (which your car has as well) my automatic CL-S ran 14.39 and 14.4 all day long. for the record, all these times were with stock tires, same as you. i was getting 2.2 and 2.3 60 foot times...with stock tires at the recommended pressure, no pressure dropping in either front or rear as many commonly do here for going to the track. so clearly either your launching/shifting ability is lacking or something else is going on with your car. no offense man, just stating some facts and giving you something to compare it to. period.

besides, what the hell is the point of going to a track anyway and spending the money to get in and run if the weather is so shitty and your times are going to be crap no matter what you do? what fun is that?

Happy CL-S Pilot
I just came from New England Dragway.
This night more stressfully than I wanted. I thought I will be having fun. I came at 5:45PM and it took 1hr to get tech inspection. That sucks. By the time I was in the lanes, I was stopped and denied racing because I changed a lane to go the right track!.. That blows... first run was at 7:15 PM and the last was just at 9:30 PM. Lanes are closed and no more racing for me. Those who raced 10 min earlier had an extra run.I had only 4 runs!...
Anyways, I was experimenting launching techniques.. and to prove that traction is all that matters...
Here is what I did on the last run...I wanted to try stabbing the right paddle from idle and keep at 100% throttle.
Tire pressures: Front 26 PSI, rear 40 PSI.
Gas: at 2 tick above the E mark, still no Gas light.
Temp was 64F, humidity is like 80%. AP > 30.00 I will get exact conditions later...I did Gate Shift on this run. I was on Nitto 555R with some 27.5k miles on them.
The run was on left lane where I was advised to stay away from because there was no traction!!
Anyways, I post a complete review later on in the Sectioned Racing.
THE RUN:
I floored on the third light, I spinned the front tires till I hit the Rev-limiter while the tires were spinning. I gate shifted into 2nd. Tires kept spinning. Again once the tires hooked up it was too late. I already lost too much time. I was not to sorry, I wanted to experiment!!
The timeslip:
R/T 0.63
60' 2.761
330 7.126
1/8 10.465 @ 74.56 MPH
1000 13.317
1/4 15.707 @ 94.63 MPH
Lesson of the day: Too much torque and NO traction sucks!!
BTW, 2 other runs were 14.7 and one 14.8.

THANK YOU!!! DFV 3.2cl-s. I finally found someone that have gone to the track and is telling the truth. I think your reaction time is slightly slow and I can tell form your 60ft time that you might be smoking your tires a little too much. But a friend of mine have a 6sp with CT header and ice box and have never broke 15's. His reaction was between .55 to .65 and 60ft was between 2.3 to 2.4. we are in Los Angeles and track temp during summer is about 85F-105F.

my only advice is not to worry about your reaction time, or the guy next to you. just concentrate on your launch. I just got my headers and icebox and wanted to hit the track, but I bent two wheels and had to put stock wheels back on with old bald tires. a friend of mine gave me a set of champio(?) 205-40-17 tires. skinnier than stock, but I thought it wouldn't be too bad since they are new. When my car was stock the my best run was a 14.7 but this is my first stick and first attemt at drag racing a car.
with those crappy skinny tires, i managed 14.5 with a 2.4 60ft time. I didn't bother saving the slips cause I was too dissapointed
conditions...
hot, humid and sea level of course.
its Hawaii stupid!:P
