Posted on the 1st gen forum yesterday asking if my 2.2 would pull on the miata... well here are the results...

We ran 4 times, 3 complete stop and 1 from 40...
1st run - He got me off the line, I catch up when hez shifting from 1st to 2nd... stayed even for up to around 40~50 and I begun to slowly pull on him after 60... by the time we shut it down at around 100 i was about a car length ahead...

2nd run - Pretty much even off the line, he lagged when shifing from 1st to 2nd again... i'm half a car ahead.. he pulled even on me after 2nd gear... we're even... after around 60 i starts to pull again... this time half a car length ahead..

3rd run - I lagged off the line for some reason even though i have auto... he was 1 car length ahead... and pretty much stayed that way up to 50... i started to pull up to his rear fender when we shut it down.... I LOST!

4th run from 40 - Stayed pretty much even the whole way until the end where I pulled half a car length by 100~110...

After talking to u guys yesterday.... I was expecting to lose.. but so far itz not so bad!! Finally, he stops talking shit bout how a 1st gen suck.. and etc.... :P

Nice kills/killed! Miatas are light and quick. I don't like the way the Miata looks but to each their own.

Was it a modded MX-5 or stock? What year?
What mods do you have?
Did the MX know how to really drive it?

The stock times for the 1.8L ist gen Miata are pretty even with a lightly modded CL. A lot depends on the driver and the mods too though.

Anyhow. I think you matched up with a poor Miata bro. Be careful when you line up against another one... one without 17" rims!
Why did that dude put 17's on a MX-5???!!! Does he even know what he's doing or did he just ask some guy "yo, what's the biggest tire to fit on here?"

Now, your friend may be a nice guy and all but he obviously knows nothing of modding Miata's. Those 17's are slowing him wayyyy down. That's why you got him on the 1-2 shift.

Good run though. At least you are honest and not just bashing people and cars without facts. Tell your friend to put his stockies back on and race you again. Also tell him not to shift until he's in the red. That's how he needs to play. Miata's aren't made for autobahn-style top end running so on a long enough road you'll eventually catch him. But the 1/4 is typically the standard. Also, make sure you don't run him on a road with any curves in it...
