Warrany Question - what voids an extended warranty - coverage?
I decided not to get an extended warranty because of some of the postings I read on here. Sure enough, I am faced with a potential costly repair about 150 miles out of warranty. My headlight is out and I think it is the inverter bc it the intermitent on/off has happened to the other side before. Couple Questions:
- Can I get an extended warranty even though I am out of warranty now?
- If I get an extended warranty and then go to the shop, will the inverter be covered?
- If I start modding my car (i.e. suspension, headers, etc), will that void the extended warranty
Sorry if this is a newb thing, but I thought this scenario was a little different since most of the other posts were about whether to get it or not.
Thanks

1 - Not a Acura warranty. You can get a 3rd party one, but most of them suck, & coverage varies.
2 - see 1
3 - short answer is no, but if the dealer is not mod friendly, they will try to blame it on the mods & refuse to work on your car.
4 - Go to an Acura dealer & see if they will "good will" the fix. Your only 150 miles out. Some dealers will be ok with that.

Acura good-will'd mine.

That was at 49k miles and about a month after the warranty expired.

Like Fuzzy said, they non-Acura warranties suck. However, I believe you have until 56K to purchase an extended warranty. I got mine when I was over 50K, and they never asked for proof of mileage. So if you feel more comfortable juts getting one now, you still can. Unless you are over 56K. I think they will still do the work if they are a friendly dealership.
As far as mods go, again even if you have an extended warranty it really depends on how mod-friendly the dealership is. Read the doc below.

WarrantyDirect is best for aftermarket warranties...
Also, most 3rd party ext. warranties are not covered under the Magnusson-Moss Act. Thus, they can certainly force you to follow all OEM maintenance recommendations, using OEM parts only, etc...
And mods may certainly be an issue.

Thanks for the advice guys. Went to Maple Shade NJ Sussman Acura and they replaced the inverter as a good-will repair. The service rep there, Crystal, was awesome. Fit me in and expressed the part so I didn't have to wait until after my vacation. Excellent customer service!
