Warning for you track whores, insurance companies cancelling drag racer policies

A guy over on RacersDen.net was at Capital Raceway in October and received a phone call from Geico insurance saying that they had pictures of his car running at the track and the signed waiver form from the track and they were cancelling his policy.

Pretty f'ed up stuff ... Might want to make sure you pull the tags off of your car after you roll through tech inspection. That way these asses can't take pictures of your tags and match it up with your car.

Just a warning to you track whores to be on the lookout ... (aka steve!)

Most insurance companys won't insure your car during a timed event, but I've never heard of a company actively going after people. If the car gets totaled at the track, they can always deny the claim, but to drop people because they're just tracking a car

That makes no sense. Yes most insurance policies do state something about racing voiding your insurance. My Progressive one does, but I never heard of it being inforced like that. How did the insurance guy know he was there? Why would the insurance co even think about that?

According to the thread, there was a guy there taking pictures of the cars and I guess trying to match the cars with a policy. Maybe they work for Geico and Mitsubishi

The person who posted the thread said he received copies of the pictures and his signed waiver form from Capital in the mail and a letter stating why his policy was cancelled.

I don't know, from what this guy claims in the thread, he said that he has a clean record and has been with Geico for over 5 years. Also, the said occurrence happened pretty quick ... he went to the track one weekend and a month later they cancelled his policy.

Probably more to the story than what we're hearing...

I doubt it, this guy says he's got a 2002 White Trans Am WS6. Looks like he's got nitrous though, there's a picture of him doing a nitrous purge in that thread.

yea most insurance companies wont cover the car during racing but will the min you leave the track. i have seen guys litterly trailer there car to a country road after racing winch it up to a tree take pictures for insurance and then put it back on the trailer so that there cars would be covered

this has been going on for a while. Some guy on the LS1 forum got his insurance canelled because he was auto Xing. Also you hear all the time about the Mitsubishi dealerships voiding warranties because they saw someone dragging or auto-xing.

How did GEICO get the waivers from Capital?

Take off you tags when you get to the track. Sign your name as Michael Schumacher.

This is nothing new for Geico, I know of at least one guy they cancelled just because he holds a racing license. They will also cancel you if you own a radar detector.

Buy your insurance from somebody else.

Wow that's new to hear....I hear that cops will take pics of cars that are in or even around street racing and send them to insurances which they then cancel.....but never heard of insurances going to the tracks. I know some auto manufacture reps will get lists from auto x or drag strips to void warranty work. This sucks....Why build a corvette with 400hp and racing suspension from the factory only for the auto company to tell you that they will not stand behind any repairs because you are using the 400hp at the track!

Ironic thing about this is that Geico actively sponsors racing event on TV, all over SpeedTV including a brief stint as sponsor on a Nextel Car in Nascar. Gotta love it.

Geico is well known for doing shit like this.
I would never give them a penny of my money no matter how good the rate they offered.

They are also real popular with the police departments for handing out free RADAR & LASER guns for speed enforcement.

All in the name of safety of course.
I’m sure they wouldn’t do ANY of this to increase company profits.

I'll never go with Geico. I bought a polciy with them for my old Bronco II I used to have, then I got some bill for an extra $200 a month surcharge. Crooked bas-tards. Needles to say, I ended up cancelling the policy.

If this is just Geico then yeah I'd definitely stay away. I just hope other insurance companies don't start doing this as well ...

When I called Geico to get insurance they didn't save me crap. It ended up their quote was even higher than Progressive which was already high. I saved 50% on my car insurance by going with Prudential who unfortunately isn't insuring cars anymore. But, Erie and Travelers are still a lot cheaper than both Geico and Progressive ... Probably save on their marketing budget

Its funny that cops tell people to take it to the track if they want to do street racing, yet insurance companies will cover me if I wreck on the street but they'll cancel my policy if I wreck at the track. Go figure.

Ya I switched over to Erie, whose quote was cheaper than Geico even before they applied my discount for having home insurance with them. Geico used to have really low rates, now they aren't even comptetitive IMO.

i personally wouldnt mind if they catch you at the track and void your warranty, but only if you are modified with nos or are on slicks or something that can really damage the car.
plus, dont these guys realize that if they scare everyone away from tracks, where will they choose to let loose next time they feel the need to speed?

the insurance company might think their doing themselves a favor by actually figuring out who exactly is involved in some racing by going to the track and taking pics, but in reality they are catching only the people who are at least sensible enough to go to a track and keep it safe in the first place.
hmm, i think next time i want to drag, the street with a gtec might be better! stupid insur. companies!

My mechanic told me the same story about companies voiding warrenty and cancelling insurance. It sucks. If I ever take mine to the track, the tags are coming off real quick.
And yeh....Geico sucks.

Geico can suck my dick. Their premium was ridiculously higher than AAA or Allstate.

How does that go? Save 15% or more on a 15-minute call? Puh-leaze.

One thing that I love about BMW, the company SUPPORTS auto-crosses. They don't take the lists and then void everyones warrenties like Mitsubishi.

Insurance on the other hand, you can buy insurance if you race a lot, specifically for the track. Its stupid and you shouldn''t have to, but I guess its better than being told to go screw yourself from the insurance when you crash at the track.
