Volvo S40
This doesnt have much to do with the CL-S but just thought I would share my experience to save some of you the heartache of going through it....
Last week some stupid bitch wasnt paying attention and rear ended me while I was at a stop light anyway... this morning i droped it off at the pohanka body shop and enterprise picked me up for my rental. originally they were gonna give me a taurus then i told them to kiss my ass and they gave me the S40.
Leather- nice quality
Stereo- good sound... descent lows
Ergo- horrible, everything out of reach no steering wheel controls
Seats- comfortable, not power on passenger side
Handling- body roll like a mofo
Brakes- excellent
Power- my 98' neon had more power and got up and went a lot
quicker
Comfort- nice smooth ride at 60-90 but took forever to get there
All in all a total POS... should have opted for the Grand Prix with its plastic gray buttons and bright orange lighting, granted the S40 is only 24K but it shouldnt have the name Volvo on it IMO.

It's not that bad. My gf had that car for a year and I drove it a bunch. In power mode it pulls decently with the turbo it has and it a small and nimble car. It doesn't have the torque of the Cl but it is a tiny car. It's Volvo's civic, small, kinda fun, practical, and really safe. I saw a souped up version of a s40 in a car mag and it looked real tight.

it'll move at 60+ if i punch it but not like i would expect.
my fiancee (sp?) has a turbo bug, 1.8 and it pulls 10X harder at all rpm ranges....
basically, i was disappointed, i wasnt expecting M3 or E430 quality but I was expecting CL/IS300/C230/325i likeness

There is a rectangular button by the shifter which changes it to sport mode, it should glow orange or red when pressed in and should have an S/W on it or something. I think it raises the shift points to higher rpms thus letting the turbo spool more. When in sport mode it has a nice growl to it. I would suggest leaving it in power mode.
The car weighs 2767 lbs.
has a 1.9L turbo engine with 160hp (5250rpm) and 177lbs/ft (1800rpm) torque
I would say that's not bad; it's got good torque at a low rpm and good hp for a decently light car. I remember spanking some eclipses pretty badly in it.

My friend has an S40. It's freaking slow 0-60. She beats the shit out of that car. She floors it and slams on the breaks like we're always in a rush. She's a good driver. Overall, it's not a bad car, but at least you're safe.
