v8 dodge dakota v.s. my 01 CL-S..should i put money on this???
my girlfriend's sister's boyfriend thinks he can take me in his v-8 dakota...he claims to have 260 hp in that thing...im pretty sure that truch weighs more than my car and isint exactly designed to race...but i wanted to ask you guys before i made any bets or talked some shit.....especially since hes a hot headed redneck who thinks im just a preppy abercrombie boy (and thats what he called me tonight)
so whats the outcome gonna be?
so whats the outcome gonna be?

I don't know much about trucks, but I do know there was a late 90s Dakota (5.9 R/T) that put down some pretty impressive numbers (for a truck), I think it ran mid to low 15's. But a CLS should be able to beat that (assuming he's stock....and if he's talkin shit, theres a good chance hes not!) Most CLS are in the 14's, ranging from low to high depending on the mods. I would say you should probably be able to take him, but be careful cause if you are stock and he has a modded 5.9 R/T, it could be close!

He's gonna get you off the line, no matter what. I think almost every truck with a V8 will, since they're designed to get off the line at a reasonable speed while hauling shit in the back.
Find out what year, do some research, and mod your car, but beat that fucker

You will smoke him......guaranteed. The higher the speed you race him to....the more your going to smoke him. Our 3rd gear is our best gear IMHO.

hell yeah i agree third gear owns....he says hes got an intake, hes also got some kind of rear stabilizer, but i dotn know shit about trucks either, havent had any really try to race me....
its not a 5.9 tho, it is a later model but not the RT..what were they called v8 magnums?
anyhow next time i run into him ill find out if he wants to put some coin on it...
yeah and my car is stock too..... i wanna beat that truck hes got....then hes got an eclipse GS and is gonna bolt a turbo up to it...
so who would win in that race...that is if he is REALLY serious
CL-S vs. Eclipse GST??

stock for stock, a cl-s will take a gs-t hand down...
same with a 5.9 R/T vs an 01 CL-S stock for stock...we'd take them with some ease. However, when the R/T's are modded, they're no joke. But anyways, if you say he doesnt have the R/T...and hes only got an intake...I would put down some dough no doubt. Kick his ass!!!

a gs with an aftermarket turbo is quite different from a stock gs-t...depending on the turbo, that eclipse can get pretty damn fast, so don't take it lightly. the stock gs-t's are relatively quick, but i think you should be able to take it

Trucks suck off the line all they do is spin especially midsize trucks like the dakota with a v8, as frainky said they are light in the rear and without weight they don't do much. A midsize with a big motor is just a high powered tire fryer.
You should easily take him, I beat a fullsize dodge with a hemi with my 3.0 and 2 other people in the car with me.

the best that I've seen a stock gs-t run was a 14.9 @ 91.6mph ... sure, from a dig, the race can be pretty close...however I'll still favor the cl-s, as the driver of the gs-t is gonna HAVE to make sure they know how to drive a stick well. The guy in the cl-s, however, just needs to know not to spin his tires like a dipshit. But I will give the gs-t & gsx a fair equal chance at us. Btw, revoke what I said in my earlier post. I didn't mean to say hands down.

My friend owns a gs-t with some mods. Straight pipe, exhaust, air filter, and a blow off valve (at the time). He raced a Dodge Dakota R/T (intake, exhaust, and straight pipe too) and won barely by a bumper.
You'll take the R/T, and you "might" be able to hold your ground against the eclipse, depending on what set up he has.

He said it wasn't a R/T.

I raced a Durango at the track with some rear suspension mods. He ran a 14.0 to my 14.4, this was on a hot and humid day(90degrees 95% uhumidity). On a better weather day, he was probably a mid 13 sec Durango(heavier than the Dakota). I wouldn't put money on it....just my experience. This guy was modded to the gills though, everything possible except an power adder.

My father has a 2004 Dakota with the Ram V-8 in it. I don't know the specs or times, but I do know that its no slouch. I know once I smoked a Crown Victoria in that thing.
One thing you won't have to worry about is him staying with you past 90mph, it seems that the engine acts funky when you're racing it and its gets to that speed. The truck will start makings this "errrraaaa-errraaa"- noice and the tach starts fluctuating. You have to lift off of the gas a bit to get it to get back in the right gear.

Before you race any........decent car go to car-stats.com, then you know who to stay away from. If I were to guess then as long as he doesnt have the 5.9 then you should be fine. Let me know how it turns out.

truck and minivans dont have high mph counter on their speedometer.. they usually stop at like 110 or 120? hehe
my 1990 dodge caravan v6, had trouble going past 90 as well.. .. but it was a shitty car.. but yet my first.. but yeah.. it wasnt designed to go that fast!..
thats why CL's ROCK!!!

well i don't race my truck but i do have a durango and i can say that it will hit the limiter at arouond
110 or so...i don't go that fast often tho...i'd be more worried about a modded 4.7 it's an OHC motor
but ya'll should check out www.dakota-durango.com and get a better idea of the competition

Should be close with the truck. R/Ts run 15 flat but the other V8 isn't far behind - mid 15s. You know V8s take intake and esp exhaust mods well so if he's for a few it'll be close. Make sure you drive around a bit and follow him, make sure there isn't a distinctive whine.
For the guy that beat a Crown Vic - they only run mid 16s. From a dig, you can prob walk beside one and beat it. Esp a cop car with 500lbs of extra shit. They run good on the highway though and from a higher roll.
