V1 owners....

Is there a way to disable X band entirely??? The false alarms are annoying me. I have it in "advanced logic" mode, but the logic doesn't seem too advanced. X band pops up like crazy!

I was told X band is the least common type of radar still used by cops. All i've seen around here is K band and laser.

X is almost nonexistant except for hick and/or poor towns....and New Jersey!

Turn off that X crap...I don't know what it would be like if I still had X turned on...as I'm now dealing with K band falses from traffic signs and door sensors!

Agent....

Have you had any Ka alerts in MD?? Also, if you've gone out to the eastern shore and in DE...do those little towns that are huge speed traps use X?

BTW... nice video... North Bethesda/Potomac area?

I spend one year in my area with X-band ON, just to make sure. No X-band in the KC metro area...so I turned it off. Life with V1 is much more pleasant. Learn how to turn off the X-band on your V1 here.

Very few V1 owners should know this, but another proof of V1 being able to disable bands is the fact that, "out of the box" there is one band that IS disabled already (cant recall the name). It's not used in the USA, but in 2-3 countries in Europe (Belgium is one of them). So yes. You can disable.

Thanks for your compliment! I definetley need to do a newer and better video w/ all the MODs I've added since. Yep, that is N. Potomac! I've kinda toned down my spirited driving in those areas cuz I got a damn ticket (my only one) from a motorcycle cop in my OWN fucking NEIGHBORHOOD! 48 in a 25 (but was written as 35 cuz I was nice )

I have gotten Ka in MD...Both from Rockville PD near their station by the courthouses (Speed trap) combined w/ Lidar! (clusterfuck COMBO...I picked up a Ka signal that was left on..which prepared me for a laser trap for a 25mph zone going downhill!) Those Rockville mofos!

Also got Ka (left on) from a MD trooper parked along Clara Barton Parkway. I think he was eating his lunch and just wanted to piss off those w/ dectectors.

Ka, K, Laser are the primary bands for MD/VA from what I have experienced. I have seen VA state troopers w/ K and also Ka (probably older and newer cars).

I have not been to DE but I would still assume at least K cuz X is REALLY old! Watch out for it in NJ!

When I hear that sound from my V1 of Ka I stop all brain activity and slow the fuck down! That sound gives me CHILLS! It's more deeper and meaner than all the other bands. But it's also the most fun band...cuz Ka is pretty much guaranteed to be a real cop and a very big chance to show off the V1's skills and beat a ticket!

Not even laser will make me as freaked out cuz I get enough falses from Trailblazer brakelights and Neon signs. Not only that..I'm probably fucked anyways if its a real laser hit! Unless of course it's a poorly organized Rockville PD speed trap of course when you are aware of them by a left-on Ka radar gun!

As I have mentioned NJ uses a lot of X band (I have not personally been hit by it, but it's publicly known on the net) and possibily others. NY uses Ka for sure (I got a hit there) and has it's share of Camaro state troopers utilizing it. I'm also sure NY also uses K & Lidar.

Word of advice...if you speed and I mean 10+ over speed limit regularly....get a V1. No bullshit! Escort 8500 is pretty damn good..but if you want something that WILL save your ass a lot..get a V1...proven to be the best! The $400 tag is pretty enormous when you lay down your credit card...but it pays for itself if you do any highway driving! I'd say in the three months I've owned the V1 I have had 3 or 4 MAJOR saves that would have cost me hundreds total plus points! In addition I was "made aware" of troopers that already pulled people over many times.

I'm a V1 addict and this was my story.

Seriously though... I've had the V1 for 2 weeks and I'm addicted. Yesterday I was on the highway and I was getting a K hit that was coming in and out from the rear. I could see a local County cop in my rear view and many of the local cops have K band mounted on their visors so I just assumed it was that cop. Then the cop got closer and closer and the signal didnt' get much stronger. Then she passed me and the arrow didn't point to the side and I'm like WTF??? Then she passes me totally and its still pointing to the rear??? I think my V1 is all confused or something. So she takes the next exit and I've still got a K hit from the rear but now it is constant, not fading in and out. Then a truck about 8 car lenghts changes lanes, and who is hiding behind him??? A state tropper with dash mounted radar... at this point I have a huge grin on my face because the V1 picked him up a 1/2 mile before he caught up to me. And all along I doubted it until I saw him!

BUY THE V1 or BUY NOTHING AT ALL

Damn thats pretty cool. I have yet to catch any real moving radar except for when a local VA beach cop left his Ka-mounted radar on while driving around the main streets.

Lately I have been gettin a lot of K hits from those Construction Electronic billboard signs on 495 and Clara Barton. I can detect those fuckers over a mile away! I'm waiting for my bogey count to hit "2" so I can beat a cop using the signs as a cover!

Also if you ever get random K hits that go ON and OFF on the highway it could be a leaky radar dectector (mostly those cheapos under $200) or INSTANT-ON radar (cue evil music)

OMG those damn construction things are killer. Actually today there was a cop sitting on the the shoulder of route 29 near Ellicott City where they just finished widening the road. They still have those construction signs sitting there and for the past 2 weeks I've got a K band hit when I'm close, but today the bogey counter said 2 and I said WHOAAAA someone is trying to be sneaky.

I work in Bethesda on River Road and commute down there every day unless I'm out somewhere on a job site and the V1 helps me out every day on my 30 mile commute in to DC or if I go 95 to 495 I've twice gotten a laser warning from someone in front of me getting picked off. (They are in the left lane and I am one over to the right) I guess the laser reflects?? This thing is so awesome.

I live in Bethesda off of River Rd! Where do you work? Where specifically have you seen laser setups in DC/MD?

Newest V1 can pickup Ku band, which is not authorised for use in the US. V1 comes from the factory with this setting turned OFF.

Ku band is European Photo Radar. Details

My office is in the Kenwood Building across from the Whole Foods and next to the garden center. Just north of Little Falls.

I haven't seen any laser/radar setups in DC, and I don't use my V1 in DC because its illegal and I'm not trying to get a ticket. Usually I've only seen radar in like Rock Creek park...damn Park Police. Oh also... on Military Road headed towards Friendship Heights. You come down a hill past Saint John's High School (my former HS) and 27th street. It turns into a 25mph zone there at the bottom of the hill and DC cops love to stand there and pick off people. I don't really speed in the city though.

I rarely see anyone set up on 495...mainly because traffic has been so bad lately its hard to even go 55 . But once you get on 95 they are all over the place.

OH also, Rockville cops like to sit on Guede Drive eastbound right before 355 and basically anywhere around the downtown Rockville area.

I used to be down around there all the time until I moved out of my parent's house this summer and got an apartment with my best friend in EC. Too bad an apartment my size (1,200 SF) costs me $1000 a month here and would have costed me $1800-$2000 in Bethesda.

Yea man, you work really close to my house and school (Whitman). You ever eat at G-town Bagelry? Avoid Ledos like the plague unless you got some Pepto-Bismal!

You really shouldn't worry about using V1 in DC/VA. First, you will never be "detected" by VG-2 because the V1 is shielded. Also, if you do get pulled over..you are less likely to get a ticket since your from MD, but if you still get one, it's really small ($25?). I commute to a part-time job in Arlington, VA and there is no way I'll stash away my HARDWIRED V1 It's mounted in such a way that it would be hard to tell the V1 is there unless the cop duck his head in the PASSENGER side window..or approached my car from the front (ie. he sees he when looking directly at windshield. Most cases though, a cop would be behind your cop and approach your driver's side.

G-town bagelry all the time... but my real favorite is Chipotle down in Friendship heights...sooooo good.

Oh and I know all about a cop approaching me from my driver's side... 3 tickets and 5 points before I broke down a finally got the V1.

Ouch! Watch out for the undercover BLUE EXPEDITON/EXPLORER unmarked SUV around River Rd. I've seen it pull over people a LOT lately and most recently a block from your building!

I get alot of laser when I drive through MD going to NYC. KU is for overseas use only, & is turned off by default on the V1. New Jersey uses X alot, I also have been hit with it. The V1 can have X bad turned off. Mine is off since X is not used in FL. The instructions are not in the manual on turning it off. You need to go to V1'a website to get the specific instructions...

Bad news!!!! There's a new Detector-Detector on the market and it doesn't miss a one. Check it out. The entire article is very good but the results from the Spectra should be of concern to those in VA and DC. These guys have been testing for a while and I can't find any associations to any detector makers. It looks unbiased.

While the tests for the new Spectra show even the V1 can't detect...new technology will cost a lot of $$$ and will probably take much time to equip states. Also, it was not made clear in the article if tests were done while more than one radar dectector was on in the same car (See pic)

It's been known for a while that other running detectors greatly affect the range of other dectectors if ran at the same time.

Overall though the article was a great read. I felt it was pretty unbiased since the V1 was it's leader. V1 openly discusses Escort's biased review sites (such as radartest.com) and would probably never be involved in any to mess with it's excellent rep!

With VA and DC being the only outlaw states, I'm surprised manufacturers are even concerned anymore about defeating the Spectra or other radar-detector-detectors. It costs money to deploy this in a V1....most of us don't need it.

Good point. Although I wouldn't put it past Mike Valentine to defeat it for the purpose of having all the bases covered. I mean the guy is a fanatic when it comes to the game of cat an mouse.

He's got to defeat the Bee's POP mode now, shield the from that new D-D and maintain performance. Tall order.

So true...and add GPS. No wonder the new V1 is a year late and maybe $100 more.
