Using more fuel??

I seem to be using more gas lately, now that the weather is getting colder.

Do any of you know if using the heater uses as much fuel as using the a/c??

Someone told me it did, but it doesn't make sense.

Anyone change their heppa filter yet??

TIA.

It's possibly due to the oxygenated fuels used during the winter. How much lower is your mileage? Oxygenated fuels or RFG's can account from 0% to sometimes 15% loss in economy over the winter months.

I haven't refilled the TL's tank lately, but the other vehicles are feeling it.

RFG's are mandated in our area between November 1 and February 28.

EPA logic: Increase oxygen content in fuel for environment = decreased engine efficiency = more fuel used = increased contaminents in environment.

The heater alone will not hurt your mileage. The A/C compressor does create drag on the motor and will reduce mileage and it comes on when you use the defroster.

What oil do you use? Thicker than 5W-30 will also hurt power and mileage. Oddly, the TLS uses 5W-20 vs. the 5W-30 I have heard is used on the CLS.

Yea same here in Jersey, when I goto my fav gas station, there is a sticker stating, from November 7th to February 28th, the gasoline pumped from this dispenser will be oxygenated. Ive been loosing gas milage. But oh wells, its for only 4 months. I dont drive during the winter anyways.
