upset with track times

well everyone,

i went to the track today expecting low 14's and came out disappointed.

temp - 72 degree
humidity - ???
race 1,2, and 4 used SS
race 3 used gateshift

here are the results -

race #1 race #2 race #3 race #4

60ft 2.33 2.31 2.30 2.31

330ft 6.41 6.38 6.36 6.38

1/8 9.66 9.64 9.60 9.62
mph 75.57 75.59 75.73 75.56

1000ft 12.47 12.45 12.41 12.44

1/4 14.86 14.83 14.80 14.82
mph 95.12 95.17 95.06 95.19

as you can see, my 19's slowed me down alot. also i just installed the AW headers no more then 2 hours prior to the event without resetting the ecu. maybe that has something to do with the low times??? the only thing positive is that my time are very consistant.

will some of the experts please enlighten me on how to improve my times.

thank!

if you take off the 19's, work the 60ft. to 2.2x (very possible), and possibly allow the car to adjust to the headers, you will probably hit mid to low 14's. you should easily knock off .3-.4 tenths just from that, if not more.

loose the 19's and learn to launch...2.0 is achievable however 2.1 is exceptablewith your MPh 14.5 was there 2 moreand a 14.3 i could even see... those 19's and a 2.0 is what you'd need there

Yeah, the launch is the key here ... a 60ft time of 2.3 is not good (no offense). A 60 ft of ~2.1 should put you into the mid to low 14s with your trap speed / mods.

Maybe get some drag radials wrapped in your OEM wheels, or get some lightweight 16s and drag radials. With that setup you could possibly lower your 60ft even more than 2.1 ..

I usually launch at about 2000-2500rpms ... and I've been able to pull 2.1 60' fts.

just for perspective I suck at the launches and on stock wheels/tires I ran a best of 14.6 @ 96 in the cold. On a warmer day with 18s and summer tires I only ran a consistent 14.8@95. my best 60' is a 2.38 I think.

I ran a best of 14.1 @ 102 with my 19's on. My 60' times were all around 2.3.

When I ran with the stock wheels a couple weeks later, I got a best of 13.6 @ 105. My 60' times were around 2.1-2.2. Loose the 19's and lower the tire pressure to 28psi in the front and 40psi in the rear.

BTW, I have a S/C.

You should try and hook up w/ MattG next time you go to the track. He's run a 13.2 w/ a 75-shot and lightweight wheels and...stuff. He could show you how to launch better.

maybe for you or me. 2.0 would be impossible for him w/ the mods he has, and that's on stock wheels.

2.1 is the best he could hope for imo.

you still down to go to the track on the 11th, bigguy?

brake torquing ... you step on the brake with your left foot ... and then step on the gas with your right foot. Hold the rpms around 2000-2500rpms. When the 2nd yellow light flashes, let off the brake and mash the gas.

I would expect you to trap higher too. I had a higher trap speed when my only mod was the Icebox. 14.5@95.6.

With I/H I hit 98.6.

With I/H/E/UniChip I hit 99.1.

Stock wheels, all season tires.

Your wheels are probably ruining your mph - stock wheels should get you to around 97-99mph
