UPDATE! - Dual-stage Intake (IMRC) - finally repaired!
And most likely a TSB (technical service bulletin) will be issued to Acura Dealers!...
As many of you members know, I too had a failed IMRC, which South Coast Acura (Costa Mesa, CA) refused to fix - even after showing them that it worked on a new car on their lot. I contacted Acura Customer Service, who then contacted South Coast. - Acura Corp. told me that South Coast would not let me come back to their dealership, due to my "attitude", emails, & BBB complaint! ...Anyway, Acura made arrangements for me to meet with a District Service Manager at Tustin Acura last Thursday. I met with Scott Fischer - District Manager, Parts and Service - Acura Western Zone 1; and with Eric, the Service Manager of Tustin Acura. I explained my situation, Scott was prepared - he had copies of the Service Manual, Technical Info, and Wire Schematics of the IMRC system.
He apologized for the way I had been treated at South Coast, but defended them by stating that they believed my modded PCM was the problem.
I told them about the six failures (that we know about) and showed them the archived topic. He says, "Well, let's go take a look at it!" They had a NEW Type S ready and waiting - They pulled my car into a spot right next to the Service Manager's Office, took off the cowling, I reved it up a few times while everyone was watching - "You're right Ron, it's NOT opening!", they said. We go to the new car and do the same thing - it opens ..."See, I told you it's a failed actuator!", I said.
Well, it could be your PCM mod - I tried to explain that the PCM didn't signal the actuator, but they still maintained that it did! Anyway, they swapped PCM's from the new car, did some voltage tests from the IRCM module, to the actuator, then finally concluded it WAS THE ACTUATOR, then replaced it with the one from the other car!
Scott said it was the first time that he was heard of this problem, apologized, and I was on my way in a total of a little over an hour after being given the "Red Carpet" Treatment!
The best part is that Scott said he would write up a service bulletin notice so dealers would be aware of this, because there are probably other [nonenthusiasts] owners that aren't even aware of it!
So, it should now be easier for those in the future to get this problem resolved!
BTW: If you live in Orange County - Go to Tustin Acura for your service needs - they have restored my faith in ACURA SERVICE!

PS: They are also now aware of the "spongy" brake issue!
And they will sell and install Comptech Headers, springs, etc, at very resonable prices! Ask for Eric, the Service Manager - and make sure you tell him that "Ogolden" sent you!

The one I'm talking about controls the air/fuel mixture and the timing advances - it "re-maps" the stock settings to optimize horsepower!
Do a search to read more on it - it's been discussed many times!

The PCM commands the IMRC control module which in turn controls the actuator. So the PCM does control the opening and closing of the valve body.
