Ultimate Accord Powers Up
Here's a super-Accord which could 'charge' past BMW's M3 and the Audi S4. The bodykitted Honda, revealed at last week's Geneva Motor Show, points the way to a new super-quick version - but the big news is that it could use hybrid technology to give it the power needed to take on its German rivals.
"With looks like this, the production version will have to be beyond the performance levels of a Type R," said a Honda insider. "Our target with this Accord is to show that we can beat our German rivals. So the high-performance model will have to be good enough to take on their range-topping models."
The problem so far has been the lack of an engine. The firm is looking at harnessing the performance potential of hybrid powertrains to give both the Accord range and the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology a real image boost. "The Accord has been engineered to accept IMA, and our Dual Note concept demonstrated that hybrids can be more than simply about economy," said our source. The Dual Note, unveiled at 2001's Tokyo Motor Show, is expected to become the new NSX in 2005, and a hot Accord will appear then, too.
The result would be a car with a 200bhp-plus VTEC petrol engine powering the front wheels, and electric hub motors driving the rears. It would have four-wheel drive and offer performance on a par with that of a conventional 350bhp vehicle, but with fuel economy to rival a regular 2.0-litre petrol unit.

Cost of the hybrid. This isn't new techonology and with Honda's proclivity for parts sharing i would venture to guess this is the same stuff you'll see in the RL.

Ah good point. I hadn't thought it of that way. See what i mean Honda says stuff but it's very subtle.

dbox,
let's hope. If honda can release this car in the USDM it'd be HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE step for them. It would be the proverbial throwing down of the gauntlet. The factory typeR accord competing with the big boys.

great news for Honda.... Im assuming that since its a Honda it still has to between $25k-$35k. ...not bad for what its offering...just one question what would a car like this do to the resale value of the acura cL-S

lou, our resale is already shot to hell, so it couldnt get much worse. and i would expect this in the low 40's range not 25-30 because thats the niche occupied by the TSX and 30-40 should be the niche for a next gen TL/CL.
this is a bad ass car, i'd nonconsentually sex it.
and yes if honda could pull this off, daaaaaamn, nissan/infiniti would have to pull something rediculous. imagine a M3 4door with 45 mpg with a reliable engine and friendly service people. thats just awesome.
way to go honda, now lets get it out!

they(the car makers) are finally "bringing together" the people who are enviromental freaks and power nuts. before this car I always said electric cars can't even hang with most Civics so i'd never own one. but this I might think again

still a Masshole
Anyone notice that the car looks almost exactly like the TSX with a Honda badge on it (the euro accord). I also read somewhere that the TSX is rumored to be getting a V6 in the next couple of years. Maybe the TSX will be the first to get the AWD IMA technology.
If Honda/Acura intends to take on the M3 and S4 chances are they would want to use the TSX because of its size (isn't the new TL rumored to be getting bigger as well). The TL/RL will probably get the technology as well but I would think that the TSX might get it first or be the one they tag as the M3/S4 competitor.

A v6 wouldn't fit in te engine bay. I don't even believe the euroaccord has a v6.
