he prolly got the engine out of a wrecked caddy. Very inexpensive if you and a buddy or two are mechanically inclined. I have a friend with an rx8. His rotary went bad so he went to a junyard and found a wrecked ls1 firebird 99'. They took the engine and tranny and this company sells the custom motor mounts. They had a custom dual exhast made, kinda like the new gto. And with work, he now has an 11 second v8 powered rx-8 that not only sounds like a best, but will be reliable too.

they make a kit for the RX7, not the RX8. You mean RX7 right?
but, those are sweet swaps, I will do one one day
btw, those northstar motors are pretty light too!

that thing must be sickening fast on the highway. even in a eldo, which is close to 2000lbs heavier, its fast as hell and pulls untill you let off the gas...ie: my cousin and i smoked an itr w/boltons from ~30-90.

those northstar motors are extremely light, it probably isn't much heavier. For example everyone says the LS1 rx7 has to ruin the distribution fo the car. But the LS1 is actually a little lighter then the rotary

Many years ago when I worked for SAAB Iw ent to school to learn about the then new 9000 .However the day the school was the topic of conversation was nt the new SAAB but a 900 in the lot with old school V8 badges on it .Now a 900 never came with more than a 4 cylinder however everybody was commenting on the fact that something about that particular car was not right .At break time we went out with the onwer (also a tech there for school) and lo and behold he opened the hood and there sat a nice turbo V8.
The engine was lifted out of an old Triumph Stag .Apparently the basic block in an old SOHC 4 cyl 900 was based on half of this engine that was in the Triumph .SO the guy got it in his head to see if the engine would bolt up to the trans .Indeed it fit he did have to add a small extension on th rear of the trans (900's had the engine on top of the trans and half of the trans case was the oil pan ) but it did work and fit and surprisingly looked comepletely natural under the hood .Ofcourse the rumble from the duals in the back was not stock sounding .The car was a blast to drive but he was waiting to get some suspension work done as the car had some serious understeer .From what I gather the car still lives and even garnered the interest of the SAAB engineers who did not at first believe that it could be done .
