That sucks... will insurance pay for your mods? The CL-S is actually pretty hard to steal. It's easy to get into the car.. but the key-code makes it touch to steal.

Sorry to hear that....

To all CL owners:

you might want to consider covering your VIN on your dashboard with tape or paper. I read an article that some thiefs use your VIN to have a key cut at the dealers. Some dealers do not check ID and ownership at all. All they care is the profit on the overpriced key.

That sucks man. It only takes a few seconds to tow your ride. If anyone sees it, they think it is a repo and don't pay any attention.

Sorry to hear about it, hope something good comes out of it for you. I've also heard a lot lately about the vin # making it easy to steal your car, but my stupid dealer makes you buy the window vin etching so the number is all over my car! I think using the vin # will change or the dealers will be held responsible for not checking ids. They've got all of our damn info they could want in their compouters anyway, how bout using it to protect buyers instead of to protect only themselves.

Can Acura run a check to see if a key was requested for that VIN by anyone? Do they track that?

I think I’m gonna do that this weekend.
I’ve heard this is happening more & more with all of the new electronic countermeasures that come stock from the factory.
I’ve even heard of thieves taking a minimal wage job at the dealerships for a few weeks just for the specific purpose of stealing cars in the future.

But if it’s an inside job this won’t help because they already have the VIN info and your home address on the dealers computer.

My wife’s car got stolen about 10-years ago when I lived in Reading Pa, so I know what that feeling is like to walk outside and the parking spot is empty.

Good question.
If you use the VIN to get a key made I would think you still need to “teach” the new key signal to the ignition somehow.

I think I’ll check out the HELM manual tonight.

Tow it. 3 people, < 60 seconds. Have two guys walk up, put skates under the front (or back) wheels. 3rd person comes up with the truck, hook and lift, drive away. Fast and quite. At my apartment lot in college you needed a permit or you got towed. One driver could tow a car in 2 minutes by himself.

A friend donated his car to the Cancer Society. They came with a roll-off to tow it. The driver tilted the back down, drove backwards and slid under a car, winched it a foot, lifted and drove away.

dont they have to go inside to disengage the tranny to neutral?? and u need a key to do that....also, how do u put skates under the wheels if they are firmly planted??

besides, a tow truck company aint gonna authorize a tow w/o the owner present....they would be participating in THEFT....unless the thief owned a tow truck.....

let us know what happened if u find out....so we can all learn and protect ourselves....again, sorry it had to happed to you 1st....

One way is to spray silicone in front of all the tires and then drag the car right up onto the flatbed.
Some thieves even have ramp lifts on the back of BOX TRUCKS. That way if an aftermarket alarm is wailing away no one will hear it as they drive through traffic with the back door closed.

There are a lot of independent tow truck drivers out there. Tow truck drivers who work for tow companies usually take their trucks home with them after work if they are on call. Its not hard. Throw the 'skates' on the rear wheels, jack the front..and off we go. Also, it is illegal in Cali to cover your VIN number it is a ticketable offense. So bascially, if it was a tow truck...nothing you can do about it. If it was the key, I would advise those of you paranoid about it to install a compression kill switch in their vehicle.

Sorry to hear that.

A guy I knew was a tow driver contracted for NYPD. He would get a list of cars to tow each night for various reasons. He said it was very easy to get them. He said he didn't care about any damage to the car, the bitch was getting on his truck one way or another.
