Type S engine seems Bulletproof

I now have a bit over 60,000 miles on my TL-S and it seems like this engine is bulletproof. As much as I put her in VTEC (can't get enough of the AEM CAI roar), it still comes back for more and purrs like the day I drove it off the lot with 3 miles. Unfortunatelly I'm on my 3rd tranny, but the engine seems like it will run forever.

BTW, can wait to race my new TL vs. the old. They seem to be just as quick....but I feel some torque steer to the right in the new TL once I hit VTEC (unlike the TL-S which has none). I'll let you guys know the results soon........

THe J32A2 has proven to be quite forgiving so far. In 'stock' form, it appears to be extremeley strong - its yet to be proven in high output applications. There are CL's pushing 300, 400, 450 and 500hp now... so we'll see what happens with time.

Allmotor,

Your engine will certainly be the ultimate test of how bulletproof these engines really are.....best of luck.

Most Honda engines are built fairly well. Not insanely overbuilt like some Toyota engines, but good stuff nonetheless.

It's the trannys that need work...

Honda engines are definitely well built, but unfortunately their transmissions are not quite on par.

I've got 27k miles on my car and the engine has not given me any kind of problems to speak of; the primary O2 sensor died on me at about 25k miles, but that was most likely due to the addition of the headers.

On the other hand, I'm very surprised with the beater Intrepid. It's a '96 with about 140k miles on it, bought with about 120k on the clock from an auction. The body isn't in the best shape, but the engine has been trouble-free with just oil changes. It was used as a fleet rental car previously, so it was most likely beat on, but man, it always starts on the first turn of the key, engine has never died or given us any problems. And it's a DODGE!! Mid-90's technology, too. That car's going to last another 50k miles easy with just regular maintenance.

I think we will see soon how much power these engine can take and for how long. In another year or so we will begin to learn the limits pretty well.
