trans ate itself in 30000 kilometers

so I brought the car back to y guy who rebuilt it and he said the clutches are done.. cannot handle the extra power??

wtf is this true?

if so what can I do?

richardparker 10-08-2010 06:58 PM

Was there any warranty with his work ?
Did he take it back apart yet ?

CL-S progression 01 10-08-2010 07:22 PM

not yet..

i left it with him and he drove it to and from work and he said on the way home it was bad...

thus he said it's most likely the clutches...which were new when he did the rebuild.

Nersh7 10-08-2010 08:30 PM

sshhiittyy luck dude, you were pretty careful with it to IIRC.

If it has to be rebuilt again you should go for either 3rd gen TL auto or 6 speed :)

I remember you were saying that you got super cool rebuild and trans. cooler crap. These trannies are crap, period.

CL-S progression 01 10-08-2010 09:23 PM

cooler went on after it was fucked thankyou very much... and it's the pressure on the cutches not the heat he says.. thus I need better clutches and valves would help too.. SO

I am gonna order the quote "bullittproof kit" from SPC... I'm gonna call them on monday and order everything they got.. accept TQ converter cause I got a new transtar one and I think it's holding up... should bullitproof that TOO???

i'm all ears fellas.. ALLL EARS

russianDude 10-08-2010 09:35 PM

As of now no one has managed to do a bullet proof transmission rebuild for this car. there are no magic components that make it bullet proof. did he take it apart that he claims its not heat? there is no way of knowing until you take it apart.

Ah I dont think the extra 30 hp you have is the problem. Its just a crap design. Its a garbage tranny. Good luck trying to bullet proof it!

98JDMCL 10-09-2010 06:03 AM

Rob sell this fucking car and buy something else...its one thing after another my doood.

pits200 10-09-2010 06:34 AM

^^^ What he said.

Trust me, I was in your same position a few months ago. You feel like you've put so much money into the car that if you don't fix it that it feels like a waste.

But sometimes you just need to know when to cut your loses, yes it sucks balls but it is the smartest thing to do.

And as everyone else said, there is no such thing as a "bulletproof" transmission using the CL transmission. I can't tell you exactly why but if it hasn't been done or designed yet after the cars been out for 10 years then it's never going to be done. (Well thats pretty much what RussianDude said, lol)

russianDude 10-09-2010 10:32 AM

My car is 10 year old, and my Acura rebuild tranny got 1.5 years of warranty. If my tranny dies after warranty is over, the car will be dumped. It would be insane for me to invest 3K+ for a car that is only going to be worth 3-4K. It would be much smarter to apply 3K towards purchase of new car. I am actually ready for new car in few years, so not a big deal. I am saving up for ES350 :)

whiteknight 10-09-2010 01:29 PM

I don't know why anyone would rebuild this crappy tranny anymore given all the posts. I was a sucker for an Acura remanufactured one but when this one goes that's it. If anyone is replacing their tranny, get the Odyssey tranny or get rid of the vehicle.

brian6speed 10-09-2010 02:48 PM

I really wish you would have gotten rid of it when the accident happened.

I would say swap in an odyssey trans or just get rid of it. Dont bother putting another defective tranny in.

civicdrivr 10-09-2010 03:55 PM

Man, its a shame you wouldn't put a van transmission in your sport luxury coupe.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...9&postcount=20

It does suck but if the tech wont warranty it, you may want to reconsider your options. If it makes you feel better, the 04-06 TL tranny will work too and is a much better unit.

That bulletproof tranny kit is simply bullshit. The jetting in these trannies can't keep up and get clogged. Thats what does it.

Rapture 10-09-2010 04:08 PM

Wait, isn't the 04-06 TL trans having the same problem? At least on a much smaller scale.

civicdrivr 10-09-2010 04:11 PM

Not according to the people swapping them into CLs.

I dont remember the 3rd gen being included on the recall/TIB.

Rapture 10-09-2010 04:36 PM

Well I coulda sworn I saw it on the first few pages of that Odyssey/TL swap thread.

Would be awesome if it was true, though. There's no available Odyssey transmissions around here for a decent price (haven't tried to negotiate or anything with a junk dealer)

gnuts 10-09-2010 04:54 PM

get the oddy trans and then you wont have to worry about it anymore. look on carpart.com for a local trans.

Does anyone make these so called bullit proof rebuild kits for the odyessy or the tl tranny ?
That would seams like the best way to move these days.

TheWeez 10-10-2010 10:09 AM

In for when this new tranny blows. What's the over under?

BS man, that guy has no idea what he is talking about. The power is not the issue with the trans, lack of lubrication is.

Did he use the redesigned casing or an original one? if he used an original one. tell him to fix it right and referr him to the fact that Honda switched casings in way back in 2005.

Those kevlar clutches will fail too due to lack of oil lubrication

OperationDarkie 10-11-2010 03:25 AM

oddy trans and call it a day, ditch that failure prone tranny asap, will save you money in the long run.

Or 6 speed swap.

gnuts 10-11-2010 09:09 AM

i really don't know why you won't listen to experienced members here and get the oddy trans. Like everyone has said, it's not the power that's the issue. Why are you assuming this guy who is fixing your car knows it all?

well the trans is in the car already and has been rebuilt.. obviously there is just one minor thing wrong with it that need attention so.. aint gonna go out and get a whole other trans and start over for a slight flare on one gear.

i cannot phathom having a van tranny in my sport luxury coupe.

I dont think members experience will do much to sway his decision. Maybe once it blows again he might see the light.

'07 TL tranny installed jan '10 20k+ miles put on it since then. rebuilding CL tranny is the biggest scam in history. as soon as you drive off the mechanic smiles saying to himself he'll be back soon.

it boggles my mind people are still trying to fix cl trannies when there is the TL and oddy tranny to bypass all that bs.
