Tranny shifts different when cold

Does any of you notice that car shifts little harder when it's cold outside, and you just started it?
As soon as car completly warms up, shifts become smoother.

Does any one else feel the difference? Why this happens, because tranny fluid is cold ??

yeah, this happens to pretty much every car. I think the computer makes the car shift "later" too to help warm the engine up quicker too.

I think it has something to do with physics, too.

I've always had a slight vibration in the car until I drive a mile or two, when the car is cold. I am convienced that it is the tranny fluid warming up. Makes any sense ?

Acura Service:
I just changed my tires to Bridgestone S03's. I check today when I first drive off and let you know. I doubt that our OEM's are remotely sticky ! I ruled that thought out some time ago, but I'll see this morning for my first S03 drive.......

I definately notice a difference in shifting when the tranny is cold. Even though the engine is up to temp - if I haven't been "rolling" long enuff the shifts are harsh. What's starting to concern me is that having owned my CL for 15months, I don't recall the transmission feeling this harsh last fall/winter

I'm starting to see (its only happend 3 or 4 times) odd behaviour in D4. I usually drive around the city in D4 but move to D5 when on the freeway. Under moderate but constant acceleration, like an onramp, I've noticed the shift from 3-4 is more like 3-N-4 where the engine rev's high for 1/2 to 1 second then "slams" into 4. I haven't noticed this happen in D5 though.

Tire flat spots. When tires warm up, goes away.

About tranny shifting differently: RTFM - tranny shifts at slightly higher rpms to help warm the engine up. Plus laws of nature dictate the tranny fluid is thicker when cold.

My trannie actually slips a little when it's colder. I think I'm going to have to have it replaced eventually (DAMNIT!). It doesn't just lurch into gear or shift harder (although it does that too when cold).

The only way I can think to describe it is this. Imagine if I had a manual trannie and I put the clutch in to shift and I didn't take my foot of the accelerator while moving the gear shift. The engine revs way high in between gears. Usually only between 2nd and 3rd, and usually only when it's not warmed up. It has done it a few times now when I am entering onto the Highway.

Is this one of the symptoms that other people described who had to have their trannies replaced?

Yeah it is! I would call the dealer now and alert them, perhaps they can get you on the tranny wait list now.
