TRANNY FAILURE linked to lowering???

Does anyone know if lowering the car will void out the transmission warantee?? Will the dealer say that lowering the car was a cause of transmission failure? Do those two things even have anything in common?

I was just wondering for future reference, since all this talk about trannys has made me paranoid.

thx

Well, I have seen plenty of sport (ya know... like the type S thing) cars that came lower STOCK from the factory. Why not ask them if there is any correlation??

tranny failure = 1 / (stock height - lowered height)^2 * (# of stickers on vehicle)

we just covered this in physics today

Unless you attempt to take it off-road and slam the tranny on a rock or stump.

99.9% of the time -- NO!

OTOH, if you are driving at higher speeds, the airflow under the car in being reduced. Interesting that Acura Care wants to kill the warranty on any vehicles with an add-on tranny cooler (you need to clear the install with a dealer and have them agree to cover the mod). So, the logic seems rather "fuzzy" if the car needs more cooling from the reduced airflow over the outside of the transaxle.

Someone could also mention the following tidbit: a lowered car could alter the angle of the half shafts relative to the transmission bearings. However, by similar logic, why not ban anyone that drives around with three passengers – see for yourself, it sits quite a bit lower with the big load. I can just imagine the Acura Care and/or dealer saying: "Oh... sorry, you filled out the 'I drive with three passengers box' on your "survey form" and that means you are not entitled to receive a new transmission..."

Perhaps the fine print needs a UV light and some special dyes to reveal all of the limitations in the warranty...

Who was it whose dealer gave him a hard time on a tranny failure because of springs and CAI?

ROCK DOG -- I'm pretty sure.

They mentioned the lowered car and implied that the lowered car was a sign of abuse (racing).

The dealer he was screwing around with were a bunch of morons and they caused a giant problem by writing some really "stupid" comments on his service order.

It would be like a computer service center writing: "This user has added a high performance sound card. High-performance sound cards make the machine vibrate too much..."

It's one thing to be a giant pain in the ass and certifiably stupid - and useless. It's another thing to write an unfounded opinion about a customer and/or issue on a transaction/invoice that will follow a customer for a long time.

EVERYONE CALL THEIR DEALER. Simply ask them if lowering the car voids the 'transmission warranty' and report back on this thread. I will make the call later today and report in. Pappy.

This is the best advice so far in this thread. Call your dealer and ask them. Since each dealer is individually owned, it's ultimately their call.

Some dealers are cool with it... like Park Ave. Others will try to void your warranty like Rock Dog's dealer. So if you're worried... call your dealer.

haha!!! If that's the case, then those RSX-S or new Accord V6 coupe guys would get blamed for tranny failure because of their "factory performance package." (which lowers the vehicle 1") It plains doesn't make sense!!! How about car pooling all day with 4 people who all weigh over 200lb?!?!? Your vehicle is automatically lowered with that load. I sure am not going to get blamed for tranny failure because I try to be economical by carrying 4 people all the time?

Ok guys...here it is! I called 2 dealers here in South Florida and here is what that say. If we install it...then it's covered. If we don't install it...IT MAY NOT BE COVERED. So in other words, if you have CompTech mods installed thru the dealer and pay thru the nose, your covered. I guess you have to look at it like it's an insurance policy. My question is...what if your on a trip, let's say in a different state and your car shit's the sheets...are you covered. Maybe yes or maybe no?

You're covered!!! Unless they can prove that the lowering of the car directly caused the tranny to fail. Dealers will tell you that BS so that you can go to them and get ripped off. Yes, getting things done at the dealer will make things easier to deal with if something were to go wrong, but that doesn't mean that only dealer installed aftermarket parts will not void your warranty.

What about tires?

I was wondering the same thing about different sized tires or wheels. Anyone have a failed trans with a 225/45 or 235/45 on stock wheels where the dealer blamed this?

That's fine, but what do you say to all the guys where their dealers told them to go screw?

Find another dealer, call Acura, I don't know. I guess it is a pain in the ass if you have to deal with one of these ridiculous dealers, but bitching and bitching more to a higher authority has seemed to work for most of the people on here, if necessary.
