Trading up for a 6 speed good deal?
I have 2+ years on my 2002 lease. I asked about trading to a 2003 6 speed. I was told it would be about $2500 difference in what Acura will buy the car back at $21K vs what is owed. $23500. Plus the $1500 down for the lease.(first month, tag fee's, dealer fees) So for $4000 out of pocket, I can get a 03 6 speed, for the same payments I'm getting my 02 for. It's leased yeah I know, but to buy would be alot more out of pocket then $4000. If I did the same deal with the same figures & bought my payments would be $124 more a month. Good deal? bad deal? Am I crazy!

there are quite a few members who have traded in 2001's for 2003 6 speeds...it just boils down to how important it is to you to have a manual..
just look at it this way...is a manual transmission worth 4000 dollars to you?? because thats really all you are getting for your 4000 dollars out of pocket....just a tranny....and an odometer reading 0 and another few years of payments....
also, that sounds kinda high..id go for 3000 out of pocket and payments stay the same, that sounds more like it....21.5k trade in on the 2002 seems awfully low.

1) Dealer paid off my car which amounted to about 19k.
2) My new 2003 CL-S 6sp came with Nav, OnStar, moonroof & visor, spoiler, fender splash guards and trim, "100,000" mi. ext. warranty, teflon high-gloss paint sealer and interior carpet and leather treatment (5 yr guantee), Network Car (much better than LoJack because it's realtime all the time and alot more).
3) Leased for 48 months with a residule of 14k for buyout at end of lease.
4) Paid about 4k less than I did for the 2001.
5) No out-of-pocket expense.
6) Lowered my monthly payment by $125/mon.
If I was to subtract all the extras (as listed above), I got the basic car for about 26k.

I did a similar move: I'd been keeping an eye out at my local dealer for a 6-spd to come in so I could test drive it (this was about a 6-7 month wait as they were all spoken for when they hit the dealer). Finally got on in near the end of December, 2002, test drove it and the talked deal with the guy.
Essentially, I traded in my 2001 CL-S auto with 31K miles (and some interesting tranny hesitations between 3rd and 4th that were beginning to scare me), wound up with the same out of the trade as I did when getting the original, and spent less on the price of the new car than I did in 2000. Better financing rate through American Honda, and I end up paying slightly less per month over 5 years.
From:
2001 CL-S
Satin Silver
No Navi
No Spoiler
Only Mod: K&N Air Filter
To:
2003 CL-S 6-spd
Silver (doesn't seen to be Satin anymore?)
No Navi
No Spoiler
Threw in trunk mat, wheel locks and mud flaps for free
Only Mod: Same K&N Air Filter
The 6 speed is worth it if you really enjoy driving (read: like to take the car for spins on the evenings and weekends), but it seems to take a while to break in the clutch and get the shifts down nicely. It also, hopefully, gets me around the impending tranny issue I though was developing on my 2001.

I was looking at 39 months, 15K miles/year. What is owed on my car is alot now because my monthly payments were low, & I have only been in the car 1 full year. I also have 19K miles in that year. I just drove alot this year. It wasn't my normal driving, so my milage will not exceed the limit when the lease ends. That's mainly why they will only give me $21K for it. They want me to pay the difference up front, or roll it into more monthly payments.

Consider this; if my suspicions are true about the absense of a 2004 CL, I believe the 2003 CL-S 6sp will become a collectors item. Acura will only make about 5% of them for 2003 CL models. I believe this because Acura has stated that the TSX will bridge the gap between the RSX and TL. And face it, with today's economy, the TSX production will require new production lines. I've heard a rumor from an Acura employee, that they will be switching over the CL productions lines to the TSX to handle expanded production needs. This is suppose to happen at the end of April of this year.
