How do I do it and does it hurt my engine?

Hold your left foot down on the brake pedal until you reach 2000-3000 rpm with the right foot. When the car feels like it is ready to rip, let off the brake.

I don't think it is too great for the transmission and torque converter.

(my opinion only....)

YMMV

It's not too good for any stock tranny or torque converter to do that. I've done it a couple times in my 4cyl GrandAm GT though when I want to beat someone at a stoplight when it goes down to one lane after the light.

If you have an automatic Camaro/Firebird you can get an upgraded torque converter and/or stall converter (might be the same thing?) so you can torque break better.

Dunno if such a part is available for the CL-S.

It's probably not too hot for your brakes either, can anyone say warped rotors??

I dont think rotors would be affected from that. For them to get warped they have to get very hot something that happens only if you brake hard from 3 digit mph numbers.

The tranny is what is affected the most and yes it is substantiall wear and tear if done many times.

Nah, if you slam on them to get down to 35mph from 85mph, you can warp them. My friend did by doing that. Then again, that was in a Ford Taurus and Ford's always had rotor warpage problems. They're KNOWN for that.

What is your definition of many times? and what actually is getting damaged, the torque converter?

Many times means not once or twice. If you could avoid all together it would be even better.

What is getting damaged is a lot of things I would say. The TC is one but the tranny and somewhat even the engine is getting strained. The tranny though more than anything else.
