Tire Review - Conti Extreme contact
Here’s a short review of the new Continental Conti Extreme Contact replacing Dunlop SP5000’s (both sets of tires were 235/45/17 on the stock wheels). First off, I got about 32000 miles out of the SP5K’s. Overall the tires were much better than the stock Pilots in every category. The SP5k’s were great all-season performance tires, quiet, great grip in dry, wet and snow.
For the first 500 miles the Conti’ seem to be pretty good tires. The tread is nice and aggressive. They seem a little quieter, great grip and progressive breakaway. They don’t look as wide as the Dunlop’s, the tires shoulder is less squared off. From the rear the Dunlop’s just took a slightly wider stance. The Conti’ seem to fit the stock wheel much better than the SP5K’s, due to the heavy rim guard of the Dunlop’s.
The shoulder of the Conti’ has a little scalloped look, giving it a slightly “snow tire” look to the shoulder/side wall area. At first I didn’t like it, but with a Chicago winter coming up, I can imagine those shoulders biting into a fresh snowfall for a little extra traction. I’m guessing it’s going to be a really good all-season tire.

Get some more miles on those Conti's and you'll find they don't grip nearly as well as the Dunlops on dry asphalt. Then again I have the 6 speed so I'm putting down more power to the wheels and they're WAY easier to spin than the Dunlops. They also scream like hell if I corner quickly.

keep us posted on any issues affecting these tires as you pile up the miles. I'm also currently running the asymetrical Dunlop SP5000s 235/45's on stock rims and love them compared to the stock Michelins, but with all the complaints I've seen about balance issues with Sumi's and wear/noise issues with the Conti's, it's looking more and more like Pilot A/S's when I wear out the 5000's.

Tires
The Continentals and the Dunlops are good tires but, If you want quality, performance, economy, and reputation is important, then try FALKEN.
I was in the tire business for twelve years and have sold Falkens on everything from low-rider pickups to Porsches.
Never once in all that time did I EVER see a manufacturer's defect on any Falken tire. I can not say that about Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli, BFG, Continental, Etc., etc.
High quality, great price. What more can you ask for.
Just my 2 cents

these are the OEM tires on my 740il sport.
the ride comfort is great and it also gives me enough grip when needed, but I don't throw around the 7 like I did with te CL-S so I can't give a really good comparo.

I got the Conti's on now. Overall, I like them, styling is ok, dry/cornoring is average to above average, and wet, for the 1000k that are on there now, I havent drivin on any "hard" rain, but overall, a good bang for your buck!! waiting for the snow to check them out, but looking at the pattern, it should be good in the snow!! But I cant wait to put back the 225/40zr18 Parada SpecII's on in about 4-5 months from now....Damn!!
