Great tires...WAY better than stock and less expensive than many other tires in its category plus they have a long tread life.

I run them 35 psi front and rear

Technique: are your SSR Competition Wheels 17x7 or are they wider?

If they are 17x7, is there a lot of sidewall bulge with the 235's? How are the handling characteristics?

No, they are 17X8 and are perfect for 235's. I had the 235's on the stock rims and the stock rims were definitely a bit small, there was lots of sidewall overhang/bulge. In fact, the car couldn't be aligned since the laser calipers couldn't fit in between the lip of the rim and the tire. DEFINITELY get 17X8. Feels more solid with 235's than 17X7 too, since there is a wider wheel as well.

Hope this helps.

How about 225/45/17's on the stock rims?

Technique:

I actually called the dealer back about the so called bulge/ledge *and* took my car by a local tire/alignment shop. (Not the people I bought the tires from.)

1. They said the "bulge"/step in the region between the rim and the tire is due to the width of the rim's flange AND *not* due to some undersize problems. (17x7 is OK)

2. They said they could align the car if I desired. I asked about the small ledge *and* they said, "So what..."

3. One of the tire guys I talked to said that they suspect that the 8" rim you have has a wider set of flanges than the stock wheels.

So, the conclusion that the tires are bulging does not seem to pan out.

Too, bad. It looked like I had a very convincing excuse to rationalize the purchase of some very nice rims.

Perhaps you can do me a favor and get me some scary literature or guy to talk to my wife so I can get some lighter rims.

(Thanks for the info, better safe than sorry.)

BTW -- I really would like to put on the rims you got. Does anyone know of a dealer in Los Angeles that has a great price on them?
