Tinted windows look dusty from inside

Hello again..

The 2001 CL-S I recently purchased has tinted windows (first vehicle I've had with aftermarket tint). From the inside of the car, the windows look like they're dusty/dirty when the sun hits them more directly (late afternoon / early evening when the sun is low in the sky). It looks kinda like the layer of film that builds up on the glass in a smoker's car.. an overall hazy, filmy look.. (ex smoker here)

I've cleaned the windows inside and out, but this filmy / hazy look remains. (I thought it might be caused by the light hitting the inside surface of the tint film?.. or the adhesive??).. Is this hazy / filmy appearance normal for aftermarket tinted windows? I only really notice it when the sun is low in the sky and it hits the windows more straight on.

Any commenst greatly appreciated..

Cheers,
Victor

couple things i can think of ~

maybe the film is low quality.

maybe the glass wasn't cleaned properly before the tint job.

someone may have cleaned the tint w/ glass cleaner containing ammonia, which is a big

Thanks for the response..

The film is FormulaONE, "FM 38% Millenium" (as per the warranty car), and was applied when the car was new (July 2000).

Some tint are like that....they seem a bit hazy. Some have a silvery sheen as well to them, but not quite that mirrored look.

Mine is a bit silvery, but not too bad. It really depends on which brand.

Correct, someone could of used dry paper towels to clean them too, that will put small hair line scratches throughout the tint.

Dirty work conditions where the tint was installed could be a problem too...

I always schedule my tint on days I know it is going to rain... The rain keeps all the air borne dust/dirt down. = Professional tint job

I agree...if the windows were cleaned with any ammonia product like Windex you will f@#$ up your tint and it will appear hazy.

I have formula one and it looks perfect inside and out. I have a feeling someone screwed up when cleaning the windows.

See if you can get warranty replacement through formula one. Might be tough though.

Not only do my tinted windows look dusty w/the setting sun, I see faint rainbows when I'm wearing polarized sunglasses. Kind of reminds me of the '60 s.

Same here. At first I thought something was wrong with the tint. The damn rainbow colors drive me crazy to the point that I don't wear sunglasses. I guess my tint is dark enough though

It's sounds like a mechanical bond brake down. Your tint is degrading. Go back to the place where you bought it and bitch. Hopefully you've retained your paperwork because most "good" tints have a life time guarantee. Good Luck!

i had the same thing on my last car. a car wash place used a windex-like cleaner containing ammonia. there is no way to fix it but to get it re-tinted. mine was so blurry that i couln't see through it sometimes. i had to use my sideview mirrors. see if you can pull the warranty trick

Never, never, never use Ammonia on car tint. You'll kiss it goodbye.

You should use Bounty paper towels & ( Stoner Invisible Glass) window cleaner. This is safe for aftermarket tinted window & is much better then many other cleaners. You can get it at PEP BOYS, AUTO ZONE, & some other auto stores. www.moreshine.com
