Ticket Help, S FLA
I went through a shortcut that was for emergency vehicles only on the way to school, it looks like a regular road but there is a sign posted somewhere. I realize that it is my fault, but I just want to rant and ask a question.
1. They spelled my name wrong on the ticket, I recall someone saying that it makes the ticket void but it may just be a rumor.
2. Anyone in sfla know any decent traffic lawyers cause I feel like trying to get off.

What did the cop site you with? If it's a volation that carries points, & your record is fine, I'd fight it. In FL, you have a court date on the ticket, Show up, plead no contest. The juge will look at your record, & usally give you a reduced fine with no points. However if the ticket doesn't carry points, I'd just pay the fine & be done with it. The excuse of your name spelled wrong may or may not get you off, it depends how messed up it is. Was you first or last name spelled wrong?

The name means nothing. If your driver's license number is correct then they know who you are. Look in the phone book. There are lots of Atty's that do traffic work. Just pick one. Makes little difference. Or, go yourself. Plead no contest, tell the judge you will pay the find without an adjuication of points. You may be able to work out a deal with the cop just prior to the hearing, but they tend not to make deals.

Hey,
Couple thoughts, firstly, get a court date to contest the ticket if you have not already done so. After the date has been established, get as many continuances as you can, postponing the hearing (The longer you put it off, the greater likelyhood the cop will not be a cop, or he will not remember much).
You say there are signs posted "somewhere"? Where is somewhere?? If they are obstructed or faded from years of being in the sun, testify that the sign was not visible enough, and that you would not have broken the law if you HAD indeed seen the sign.
I went through a "No Through Street During Rush-Hour" once. I was pulled over off Arizona Avenue, cutting through some residential streets when a cop pulled me over. I had no idea I had broken the law. I took it to court with photos of the signs, and the judge unfortunately didn't let me off, but had me pay the fine and no points were put on my license (however my insurance did find out about the ticket!!)
I was also pulled over for going 82 in a 65 on I=95, and writtena Negligent Driving ticket (alone the ND ticket was $270). I was thinking of hiring a lawyer, but went to court to fight it myself. I postponed the hearing for over one year from the date of the ticket. At the hearing, the cop didn't know what the hell he was talking about, and couldn't remember a damn thing. After I was pulled over, I remained on the shoulder for a few seconds to write ALL the information he told me, on how he "paced" me and saw me "make 10 lane changes in under 10 seconds" saying I moved from lane 3 to 4 to 3 to 2 to3 to 2 etc.... The cop didn't take good notes, was dumb, and didn't remember much. The judge threw out the Negligent Driving, and gave me a 7mph speeding ticket. I pulled away form traffic after all that weaving doing over 100, saw the cop come FLYING up, slowed down to 75, and as he got immediately behind me, I was doing no more than 70 or so. Told the judge I was doing 5 mph over (stupid me!!), and so he gave me a 7mph ticket while he didn't let anyone else ahead of me off the hook.
Sorry for the story, I just got carried away. Hope it helps-

Thanks all i went to the library and looked up the statute, unfortunately i dont really see anything in the wording except that it has been be able to be seen by a reasonable person. I'm going to look at the sign again sometime soon to see if it is obstructed or anything, I will probably end up gettin a lawyer if it isnt obstructed by a tree or anything. I just dont want any points, thats my basic issue.

Varies a lot by state (in NC I paid $150 - and that was the cheapest).
I actually paid $69 before... but they raised the fee to $75 now.
