Threw the belt, destoryed belt tensioner *pic*
I was going to pick up my date for my company Christmas party yesterday afternoon around 3pm. Heading up I-95, everything is good. I'm playing with an STi a little bit, nothing crazy. Then i'm just crusing in 5th gear and I downshift into 4th and try to pass, I have ZERO power. So I downshift to 3rd, the car barely pulls. I'm like great, the transmission is toast. Then I noticed I didn't hear anything from the blower, no whine, nothing. Fuel pressure isn't going over 30psi during WOT, and i'm not pushing any boost, boost gauge isn't showing boost, nothing. So I pull off at the next exit, which just happened to be my exit anyways and pull into a shopping center. I pop the hood and find this:
You can see the belt tensioner is totally warrped and pieces of it are scattered throughout the engine bay. It appears as if the belt was too tight the last time the dealership adjusted it about a month or so ago. Finally it just destroyed the tensioner and off came the belt. I called up Tishcer Acura; Brandon and Lenny were both off Saturday but I left a message for Brandon. I'll be taking it in tomorrow. Hopefully Comptech has the belt tensioners in stock. The car runs like ass right now. Still smooth, but no power at all. I'm suspecting because of the ESM installed without boost. Oh well, and I wanted to go to the track today too

the tensioner is not a CT part Steve.. hope the shaft for the Charger is not screwed up.
you will need a new tensioner and a new belt from the looks of it..
It is expressed in the directions 24ft/lbs of tension on that belt for a reason... some serious damage can occur if it is wrenched down too tight...

I spun the the shaft pulley and it felt smooth. With the larger belt needed on my car with the HBP 24ft/lbs wasn't tight enough to keep the belt from jumping.

you know they say cars run best right before they blow up :P seems to hold true......... nah i'm j/p man, first step is to beat the hell out of the guy who tensioned it last, hopefully the date made up for the lost blower... also ensure that the shaft isn't hurt man!

Are you smoking? Dude. Yeah let me roll up to Norris Acura West with all my Comptech shit and say here, fix this, hahahahahaha.
Tischer will make everything right. No worries on that end. The tech at Tischer has installed no less than 12 S/C's on CLs and TLs. The need for me to run this new belt has been something new to them though.

Doesn't seem to be a hard fix and from what you've said it doesn't sound like there's a problem with the blower shaft. I'm sure you'll be back on the road good as new by early this week.
And hey there's always next weekend for the track.

I had that happen almost 2 month after installing the blower while heading back from Columbus, GA on I-85N. No big deal though as Comptech did have it in stock. I had it shipped in overnight and was back on the road.
The power loss is due to the car trying to breath though the bypass valve port and it tries to close with a reduction in vacuum. As it valve closes, the small hole (about 1.5 inches in diameter) has little open area for the engine to breathe through. In other words, it is like driving with the throttle only onleing about 10%.

Yeah I know really. I'll be calling Jason at Speed Distributors sometime in the spring for a transplant anyways.

I went to the dealership this morning around 10:30 and Brandon is going to order a new tensioner and belt today. Hopefully they will be in stock and I'll be back in business in a day or two.
