You would purchase the NSX because it can so the same thing as Chevy or Dodge with a 3.0 liter six cylinder engine mounted midship. Because it is almost completely hand made in a special Honda factory right next to a F1 race track. The engine has titanium connecting rods and a complete alluminum body. Because this is the car that made the boys in Stuttgart and Maranello sit up say oh shit. Because this car is 11 years old and is still revolutionary. Because this car represents a landmark in technical superiority Honda/Acura has achieved in all of it's racing knowledge. It was concieved and developed at a time when Honda was showcasing its prowess in engine/race car development. Because it represents what Sochiro Honda invisioned.

Thanks for the back up gentlemen.
Not to get philisophical about a car but think of it this way. Would you rather have a supermodel girlfriend who everyone wants but can't have? Or would you rather have the really hot piece of trailer park trash that anyone can have a go at? Now both are more of less equally hot, but if aked to choose between the two?
Those cars are still powered by push rod V8 (V10), they are from a technological point of view, dinosaurs. They are to Calico Vison as Honda is PS2. Oh hell yeah they fly, but it's still trashy and ubiquitious.
Asking why buy an NSX for 86k when you can buy a simmilar performance Vette for 50K is like saying why build nuclear generators for power when we have all this coal we can burn.
