For those who pulled motor/trans from the top
Did you have any issues getting the motor in or out ?
I'm going to pick up a lift and a load leveler today.
It looks very tight but, with the leveler I think it should not be to bad.
Did anyone just leave the J pipe when the removed their engine/trans from the top ?
One less piece to remove would be great.
I want to get the headers off so I can port match the flanges to the heads.
Plan to do my removal tomorrow right on the lawn with a sheet of wood .
Not having a shop anymore is killing me.

Whats up with RDX owners?

Ne need for the load leveler. Pull the j-pipe. Remove the front mount entirely from the chassis before you pull the engine out completely.
A piece of plywood on grass with ~600lbs on it sounds like a bad idea.

Are you sure no load leveler is needed the trans looks to be tucked under the body.
And looks very tight if you were to pull it to the side without tilting it to remove.
Just going by looks since I've never removed the engine from this car before.
Also
It's either on the grass or do it at my nepehews house.
The problem with that is
1 I will have to lift the car up to put on a car dolly or truck
2 extra money for #1
3 he lives about 15-20 miles from me in the middle of nowhere.
4 no part stores near by,no honda dealer near by.
5 getting the motor and trans their
Just a big hassle.
At my house I have the tools,4 differn't part stores right down the street, honda dealership about 3 miles from my house.
Only bad is I only have grass a couple of hydraulic jacks and some jack stands.
If a was betting I say the best/easyiest way to go would be at my house just incase any issues were to come up.
And 8-10 times stuff usally does come up.
Such as hoses,sensors,fluids.
Actually now that I think about it my yard is completly flat out front from my lawn to the side walk to about a 3 foot wide piece of grass before the street.
If I park my car over the middle of the sidewalk the car will be flat and I will have concrete to pull the lift on.
Funny how just explaining my problem made me realize I could do this.
Now I have to see if I can lift the car from that position safely.
I will just have to do it on the weekend because the have town worker always up and down the road all week long being nosy looking for stuff to right tickets about,Or at least I feel like they are always being nosy

Good start on the removal today.
The guy I was borrowing the lift from said his dad needed it. So I only went this far
My luck, so I can't get it till next weekend.
About the only thing left under the hood is the accesory's and fuel line.
I still need to finish the motor up anyways.

Put the motor on an old tire if you have one, then on the plywood. Also take off your oil filter housing or whatever it is called its only three bolts and one plug. Pulling the motor is a pretty tight squeeze from the top and you probably will have to remove this so you dont get hung up.

Ok, Out and in was no problem.
But now
Has anyone ever just removed the motor by it self from the top ?
I assume the only room I would need would be to clear the line up pins between the motor and trans. As long as I can get the rear mount bracket off the motor and trans.
I want to pull the motor the easyiest way and want to know if anyone has removed only the motor ffrom the top.

^ that is quite a site to see just the trans. in there.
So was it only a matter of clearing the line up pins between the motor and trans with the rear mount bracket off the motor?
Were there any other hang ups that you ran into?
