For those looking for Red Line 5w-20

The guy I've previously ordered Red Line oil from ( http://www.auto-motor-oil.com ) has great service but he's been slow in getting 5w-20. His loss...

I found a place that carries it and is even a bit cheaper (if you buy a case). It's at http://www.autochic.com/redline/engine.html For the case, they charged me $6 shipping which works out to $7.66/qt. If you're in Jersey, it's going to be higher since they add in state tax there. Just though I'd pass this along.

Anybody else found cheaper?

Hey Steve, yeah Red Line's web page is confusing at the moment since the 5w20 is not listed yet and they do compare their straight grade 20w race oil to a 5w20. I'm no expert but based on my knowledge of Red Line, if they say their street version of the 5w20 a true multi-weight, I'm going to believe them.

What that multi-weight grade means is that at start-up (cold temps), the oil flows as a 5w oil (very thin for quick coverage) but once things reach operating temperature, the oil flows as a 20w which offers greater protection from the thicker oil.

You're right, in hot climates as you and I have, a heavier viscosity (like a 5w30) has been suggested for use in the past. I'm going on the basis that Honda is now recommending the 5w20 for their new cars and I've read where that recommendation also applies to their cars from within the past few years. That and the fact that Red Line oil (and all other synthetics) already offer a higher level of protection makes me want to switch for less internal friction and the resulting better gas mileage.

I’d be interested to hear what others think on this also...
