Is there anyone here that went from 19"s to 18"s (i.e. is the ride better?)???

I was pondering.....Then I thought that I should MAYBE....sell my 19"s, and get some 18"s and leave them on year round. The main question is....no that my stocks are back on....I like the smooth rattle free ride....but I LOVE the looks of my 19"s....sooooooo are 18"s the happy median???? Or does the ride suck on 18"s too

I’m going through the exact same thing right now, but I’m thinking of going from 18 to 17.

Basically I LOVE the way my car looks and handles, but the ride comfort in town SUCKS.
Maybe my OEM shocks are going or something…I don’t know.

Plus when I took the blingers off I noticed one of my tires had two LARGE bubbles on the inner sidewall.
Probably a ripped cord or two from a pothole hit.
The RIM is fine, but the tire is shot.
They’re nearly bald and need to be replaced in the spring so it’s no big deal, but this still worries me.

I hate threads like this.

I'll be on 19's in the Spring.

Seems like everyone gets tired of the harsh ride.

btw, each car responds differently to lowering springs, especially those on stock shox....imo, i'd never put aftermarket springs on stock shoxs simply b/c i will have to replace them down the line anyway and will have 2 pay labor twice for the same job

btw, nicky are u still on stock shoxs?

What are these? Never heard of that brand.
I was thinking of going 235/40 in the summer, but I haven’t found out for sure that they will fit.

I got the same problem with my beater too. The looks are awesome, but the ride is hell too hard. I can feel any imperfection on the pavement all thy way to my kidneys.

Yes, I pose the same question.
I find it hard to believe that going from OEM shocks to “sport tuned” version of anther brand will actually IMPROVE the ride comfort.

definately

W/ the stock shocks there is very little play w/ aftermarket springs. Aftermarket shocks will allow that play for a more comfortable ride.

Thanks….I’ll look into those.

I was also considering going with a 215/45/18 to increase my sidewall, but there aren’t many tires available in that size.

you were asking, 235's will work. There are a good amount of people running them. I know the Yoko Paradas are available in 215/45's or maybe it's a 225/45.

If you are interested I have 2 brand new 235/40/18 Nitto 555's I'll let go DIRT F'ING CHEAP!

PM me what “DIRT F'ING CHEAP” means and don’t forget you’d be shipping them cross country.

I am considering getting 555’s, but have heard some bad things about them like excessive noise, wet handling and quick wear.

ugh, i'd have to side with what you've heard. although they've lasted a hell of a lot longer than the T1-Ss.

shawn, aftermarket shox that are deigned to handle the higher spring rates from the aftermarket lowering springs will always ride alot better than the stock shox designed only to handle the lower spring rate on the stock springs

i'd suggest both you and nicky to get some aftermarket shoxs...get the tokico illuminas, they offer 5way adjustability and have a life-time warranty

also due to the lower sidewall and profile of 225(235)/40/18s, more stress will be placed on the suspension itself since there will now be less rubber to absorb the impact...w/a very good aftermarket shock, the shock will have be able to dampen and absorb the bumps even more and should in theory provide a better ride

also, by adding aftermarket springs, u will def wear ur stock shoxs out alot quicker, but combine that w/upgraded 18/19s w/less tire sidewall, the stock shoxs will wear even quicker

nope, this tire width will get smaller...the sidewall is the height of the tire...

if shawn ever put 215/40/18s vs. 225/40/18s, the sidewall will remain the same, but the width of the tire decreases

now if shawn goes w/215/45/18 vs 215/4018s, the sidewalls will be different, w/ the 225/45 having a taller sidewall than the 225/40

not trying to sound like a young prick but the car comes with 17's and if you want to back down to 17's just put your stock ones back on and blend in with the crowd. 18's are too small for the car IMHO, I love the looks of your wheels and would think the car would not look that good in 17's because of the size of the car.

Keep the 18's!!

no wait, sell them and buy 19's

The stock wheels are in Phoenix mounted on the TL of the guy that bought them from me nearly 2-years ago.

wrong, dont get the illumina's, these are performance shocks and will give you crappy ride, even on the lowest setting. if you are complaining about the ride with stock shocks and bigger rims, you would hate my car with tokicos and stock 17's.
however, i hear the konis and teins definately offer softer rides. the teins i think can match stock or go even softer, though i am not sure on that one.

The mechanics at Ardmore Acura say the the lowest setting is a little more harsh than stock. Most people wouldn't be able to notice though.
