ok i don't want to start an 8500 vs V1 again. BUT, someone told me the 8500 is better to conceal. where to conceal it? and you V1 users where do you have it mounted? sort of hiding the detector is important to me. i tried doing searches but all i found was heated arguments on which one is better.
p.s. anyone know if (or when) the V1 is going have an ergonomic overhaul?

V1 is hands down the best. Car and Driver did a review and V1 came out on top in EVERY catagory.

the v1's redesign was over a year and a half ago.
regardless... i think it is the most well thought out, best designed, and most ergonomic detector on the market.
all the controls are available at the touch of one button.

Nice to see a thread from the past come back to life
The 8500 is real simple since it can be extended with any old phone cord. Nova has some real detailed instructions with pictures, just do a search on his name and 8500 and you'll see.
But basiclaly heres what you do :
Hang the actual radar detector from your visor. Take a regular phone cord, conceal it behind the side pillar (runs up and down), pass it behind the steering wheel, and pop one of the fake wood trim pieces to pass it behind and out under the coin tray. Now take the smart cord, and plug it in as regular. Get one of those phone cord extention pieces that takes in a regular phone connection on both ends. On one end plug in the end from the smart cord, on the other end plug in the end from the extension cord thats connected to the actual unit hanging from your visor.

BINGO!
recently i tried using the suction cups and hung my 8500 right behind the tinted glass and just brought down the visor to hide it so no one can see it from behind. but all in all hanging off the corner is pimp

I'm thinking about going at this rattle myself as well, trying to open things up and pad it in like the rear deck

Re: Hanging from Visor...I've been told that most radar is being used in a field that is about three feet off the ground (cops aimimng for liscence plates)...mounting on visor would be too high to pick up...lower = better. Is this true, or have you all had good luck with higher mount...I would like to get the thing off of my dash.

that may be true. the only thing i was told to be careful of was aligning the radar detector flat with the surface of the road
