Test Drove CL 6spd today

This is my first post in the CL forum. I drive an 01 TL w/nav and my girlfriend has an 01 CL w/nav and I usually post in the TL section. Anyway, I've been trying to decide on buying a CL 6spd and one finallly showed up at a local dealer today. The crappy part is that it was raining here all day. I couldn't resist and went down and drove the car anyway. It was SSM non-nav w/13k miles near 14k. It felt real good, but the rain kept me from doing anything with it. It also seemed to have a little pull to the right if you let go of the wheel at higher speeds. I got it up to about 85 or so with a very cool salesman. I had a couple of questions if anyone knows. I didn't see a TCS button or lamp anywhere. Is traction control optional or not offered with the manual? Also, the cupholder is the newer design from what I have in the TL, and it seemed real difficult to open and close. Is that natural?

Hi, I'm in Austin, which dealer did you see it? Is that black? I'm not good with the color initials, what interior color? Better to test drive it in good weather. I like the cupholders in my 6 speed, it just has a rubber rolling door cover.
You're right, the 6 speeds are pretty rare. Not to rush you but it will probably sell pretty quick.
Ron.

Oh yea, we emailed before. The pulling could be as simple as uneven tire pressures plus the streets are slick today. You might get a good deal with the bad weather and end of the month too. I was at McDavid Acura last weekend (also drizzling rain like today) and there were not many shoppers. They had a couple of automatic CLSs.
14k is very low miles. I just turned 19k miles today. I'd check the original service date and ask for a Carfax from that dealer.
hey, anything is for sale at the right price!
good luck.

There is no traction control on the 6-Speed. It has a limited slip differential.

Mike, it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow (believe it when I see it) and I plan to wash the long-term dirt off the car and will be out and about if you want to compare mine to the silver one you tested.

that would be cool....I'll PM you if I get a chance and the weather's nice....

I wouldn't be interested in the one I drove....If I buy one, Im gonna be a real picky bastard and find one with nav....both me and my girl's cars have nav, and buying a 6spd (or any car) without it would be like downgrading in a sense....

That's true about the Navi, that's partly why I sold my first 6 speed, white/tan No Navi. You're probably gonna have to buy out of town for a 6MT Navi, .......unless you twist my arm!

yeah I know....i've already been looking...I have 2 problems though....first, I have a truck I need to sell (it's in the black market if anyone's interested)....and also, I got screwed on the title to the TL that I bought....so, now I'm having to go thru a bunch of legal shit to get it.....as soon as those are taken care of, I'm going to fly to best one I can find on AutoTrader.com and hopefully drive it home....

Definitely drive it when its dry. Even with good tires, I can spin them in 1st and 2nd all too easily. As stated before, LSD has replaced VSA/TCS on the 6 speed and its a big improvement. Instead of the car bogging down when you start to spin, the car just continues to track nice and straight and its up to you, the driver, to adjust the throttle to get them to hook up. Its also nice when you punch it in a turn and the LSD pulls you into a tighter turn. Be careful though until you get used to it or you might smack an island making while accelerating through a left turn.

My 1st test drive was in the rain also, and lemme tell you its hard to get a feel for the pull it has unless its 100% dry.

14k miles is EXTREMELY low for an 03. I bought mine in June of 03 (like near the last prod cycle) and I now have 25k on it. Out of curiousity how much did they want for it?

14k miles and $22K seems bit off. I would think it would be a bit higher-but you said you werent going to purchase it cause it wasn't navi. if you do, inspect the body like crazy, that price sounds too good

and the cup holder cover is a bitch to open, i just leave mine open all the time

I looked at the car, looked extremely clean, but the body was wet from rain so I couldn't see it perfectly. Production # is 7992, mid run. surely wasn't driven much. I've got a Prod # of about 11000 and 19k miles now.

Let me ask all the 6speed owners here.. I have 03 CLS SSM 5AT with 15k miles... Assuming this SSM 6speed at this dealer is perfectly fine.. how much do u think they would give me for my ride? I'm guessing 'Champion Autoplex' isn't acutal Acura dealer, so it can't be certified car but then I can take it to any dealer and have them to point inspection for less than 100 bucks... I'm willing to spend about 1000 to 1500 for difference. For those of you in Austin, TX , any chance you can make a call and ask if the dealer would be interested in trading? Please help out the fellow CLer! I've been looking for 6 speed for LONG-ASS time!!

I'm willing to check it for you. Selling on your own is better money and maybe less hassle than an out of state buy and sell, BUT the trading to the dealer would save you tax on the difference. you only pay tax on the net sale, new car - old car.

it's a chain of dealers, not Acura. they probably have a toll free # on their autotrader ad, you should call them, 6 speeds sell fast esp low miles.

thanks for the info but I was hoping that you could contact the salesman and see if they will trade. If I could obtain a form of document stating that this car has been tested by Acura dealer thru its inspection point, I would be VERY interested in doing bussiness with them. As far as I know, there isn't much difference between this car and my car. Same exterior and interior color, no-navi and VERY similar mileage. Yes I would much rather sell the car on my own, but it's too much hassle. Like I said before, if this car is as good as certified cars and difference wouldn't be more than 1000 dollars, I would love to trade it. I got some 6speed for sale in Atl, but all of them have more than 25k which isnt what i'm looking for. Thanks for everything in advance.

they will trade...it's a GMC/Hyundai/Chrysler dealership, pretty big...as far as the body, I looked at real closely on Saturday even tho it was raining....all I noticed was that the front sight shield (black plastic over lamps and hood latch) under the hood was broken, the hood felt a little high to the fenders (both), and the "S" on the "typeS" emblem had blue paint or nail polish leaving a thin outline of red (cheesy). from what I could tell (it was raining though), the bumpers had original paint and the doors had not been painted either...overall, I wasn't real serious in the car so I didn't go thru it that well....certified cars are a rip off anyway....one of the things about the six speed is that you don't really need an extended warranty like the automatics do....

certified= x 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 + tax, title, and license in the butt....ouch!

good luck with your search.
