Tell-Tale signs of S-Type
I'm going to look at 2001 CLS at lunch today. The ad says that it's an S-Type, but when I drove by the dealer on Sunday, their is no Type S badging on the trunk. What other tell-tale signs will give away it's true identity?
thanks.
thanks.

Look at the VIN. If the 8th digit is a 6 or 7 it's a typeS. If it's a 4 or 5, it's a premium.
You should probably spend some time in the FAQ section here and in Chods FAQ page here:
http://www.geocities.com/gamesmgr/chod/acura/
(at least that's what I did before I bought my 6spd... )
The above was Stolen from Mr. Slimeys post in the "How many 6spds" thead:
http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125628
19U - Honda of America, Acura Division, passenger vehicle (manufacturer code)
YA4 - Acura 3.2 CL with J32A1 or J32A2 engine (model code)
1 or 2 - 6MT or 5EAT Transmission model
4, 5, 6, 7 - Premium, Premium + Navi, Type S, Type S + Navi
(Canada models - 4, 6, 7 - Premium, Type S 6MT, Type S 5EAT for MY2003)
1 - check digit
1, 2, 3 - Model Year 2001, 2002, 2003
A - Factory Code (Marysville, OH)
000001-800001 Serial number

still a Masshole
Don't forget the headrests and seats in general (CLS seats are sportier and hug you more and the headrests are triangular not rectangular...at least thats the difference in the TLS vs TLP).

VIN # is all you need to check. The chances that they changed some of the cosmetic things is possible. Seriously doubt they went to the trouble of changing out the VIN# plate (plus it's stamped in a bunch of places on the car)

CLS 6MT Navi
Colors?? Don't think that is right, I know I've seen silver in both the CLS and thhe CLP. There is a green and a gold that only the CLP has, most colors were offered on both trims.

I have the brochures at home, but don't go by the color to determine a Type S. The perforated leather seats and the white gauges are the easiest tip-off.

nighthawk black is the 'black color'...also you can check carfax if you have the vin, but if you have the vin, you're done...unless it's been pieced together by a chopshop and has a salvage title...

6 Forward 1 Back
^^ Be careful if going by color. If you don't have a Agean Blue to compare it too, the Montery Blue CL-P looks similiar.
