Synthetic Gear Lube--6 speed manual
I recently purchased an Type S 03 Cl with 6 sp manual and am thinking about synthetic gear lube in addition to starting on synthetic oil. The car is driven in a cold climate and I believe synthetic provides better protection for transmission. A couple of questions:
1. Does this make sense? any downside?
2. Any recommendations on brand ?
3. Could my independent mechanic--who does not work on my Acuras--screw it up or is it an easy thing to do?
thanks in advance for your help

Where is my super sauce?
If I recall correctly, someone changed their manual fluid to Redline synthetic in 2002 or 2003 and posted here. They said that they got stiffer shifting and almost immediately went back to Honda manual transmission oil. There were comments that Honda transmissions like Honda oil (whatever that means), and tend to perform worse with synthetic gear oils.

You can use regular oil, but there is a special Honda manual transmission fluid. Supposedly there are additional additives to this to make it special for the manual transission (and hence why other brands of manual transmission fluid don't work).
The manual states that you can run regular motor oil temporarily, but they do recommend that you more consistently run with Honda manual transmission fluid.

Amsoil doesn't list a 6 speed box on the cl page but on the NSX 6 speed they only recommend Honda oil. So just keep it Honda. But the engine oil can be changed to synthetic with NO ill effects only benifits.

Kinda bringing this from the dead but i do need yalls opinions:
Redline MTF, GM Synchomesh, or just stick to Honda OEM?
time to change the tranny fluid on my 6, but heard from bad things about all the above. Been leaning on the Redline since its readily available and close to OEM specs. GM synchomesh seems to have good reviews, but still iffy about switching to a non-recommend weight.
Need your feedback on tranny oils for our 6mt's give me your

I guess I was already set at running Redline in mines too unless I got talked out of it. The factory oil just seems sluggish in cold winters, and synthetic oils usually help in that category.

I am JPROY,
When I put the redline in the trans there was already the first signs of a leak. I.E. drips of fluid under trans. Therefore, The Redline MTF had nothing to do with it. The trans dook a dump 3000 miles later.

Honda just came out with a new MT fluid recommended for all Honda/Acura sticks. Basically I have a brand new manual transmission in my CLS 6MT. When the dealer was rebuilding it I specifically told him about the reformulated manual trans fluid. He did not put it in as my invoice part #'s told me it was the old formula. Yester day when I had my suspension installed I had them change the fluid to the new formula. I have immediately noticed a significant improvement in shifting quality. It is much smoother at all temps and I highly recommend it. I got the Honda fluid from the local dealer. The new fluid is light pink in color. If you have a manual, get rid of the old oil/gold color fluid and get the new fluid. It is all that and you wont regret. Jim
