Sway bar Questions

I have no plans on lowering my car, or putting different rims on. Maybe some better tires in the stock size, or 235/45's. I do have the Strut bar. Now if I get the sways bars, how much will it improve handling? Are they worth it for someone who is not intrested in lowering the car? Also what's the diffrence between the different brands listed on the autocarparts website?

Most of the people on here lower the car to have better handling, so I don't really know how much your going to be into sway bars because you said you don't want to lower your car. I don't know what gives better handling, springs or sways? I'd go in this name brand order:

1) Comptech
2) Eibach
3) Neuspeed???

not lowered....plus sways == big diffrence in "cornering feel". Worth every peny. Go with Comptechs.

No springs, but sways

I think that will make a big difference in cornering performance of the car.

You have to look at it from this perspective (and this is what I have understood), with the sways the car is going to have less of a tendency to have 'body roll' which is a big problem for cars with soft suspensions (and I know we don't necessarily have 'soft suspensions' but it is still on the 'mushy' side).

If you enter a turn 'hot', the car will want to shift it's weight to one side or the other, and the stock sway bars have alot of give which will mean the weight transfer will happen pretty significantly and abruptly, while the 'Comptech' sway bars (especially the rears) are significantly stiffer than the stock so they won't 'give' as much (flex).

Of course with the addition of 'springs' you will lower the car, and therefore lower your center of gravity which will cause the 'body roll' to reduce even significantly more.

My explanation seriously sucked, from the serious technical standpoint, but from a laymans point of view it might give you a fair idea of how the suspension parts work, etc.

If anybody can elaborate, or correct me on any of these points please feel free to do so.

So how much would a set of Comptechs set me back?

Would you recommend I get them installed at an Acura dealer or some other qualified shop?

Thanks in advance.

about 300 bucks, i dunno if you're like me, i dig around for the best price, not necessarily the first place that somebody shouts out.

as far as the install goes, i'd do it myself (eh, i just bought them, so i will be installing them once it warms up outside).

Install the sways yourself!! :D

I would recommend buying from ACP.COM, and then doing the install yourself and having a buddy assist. Make sure you have the following;

-1 nice floor jack
-2 jack stands
-a torque wrench
-a good set of allen wrenches
-additional teflon tape (or some siligel, or whatever the hell that stuff is called) - recommend the teflon tape\pipe tape because it has worked wonders for alot of people that have used it
-Helms manual

You and a friend should be able to knock it out in about an hour (probbaly less).

Just remmember the following points;
A) (VERY IMPORTANT!!) Let the car sit for a good hour to an hour and a half to let the exhaust cool (when burnt, it is a serioud bitch!!)

B) You can actually get the front sways in w/o having to remove the J\Y-Pipe from the exhaust

C) If you're greasing up the sways, use plenty of grease (you can never go wrong with more) but using the teflon\pipe tape is the recommended process.

I'm no gear head, I love my car the way it is, but I broke down and got the sways......one word.....A W E S O M E, esp. after I slapped S-03's on the OEM rims, incredible difference. Ride is tight, responsive and no "ship" feeling and I think this is the first and best mod ! I'm not sold on the headers YET.....I see no need to lower the car now......Oh, go with Comptech and MAKE DAMN SURE you get a "good" installer ! If it's done wrong, sloppy etc......it will cost you in the long run.
Keep us posted !

agree with everyone else on this; bought Comptech sways about a year ago---MAJOR improvement in handling. it also made clear how limiting the stock tires were....cost was about 325 installed and worth every cent

Dumb Question Alert:

When installing the comtech sway bars ( Front AND Rear), Do you need to remove the old factory bars? Or are the Comptechs added in addition to the stock bars?

And where can I find a FAQ or a document on " Do it yourself " instalation?

Thanks

Now when the car is not lowered and you stomp the gas the ass drops and the front pops WAY up in the air....will the sways help this out?? I know the springs will but I am not sure I want to lower the car.

They are a replacement for the stock sway bars.
