suspension plans, please review

I'm going to do everything all at once. keep in mind i am on a budget, or i'd get Tiens...

sway:just the rear Neuspeed 25mm
shocks:konis yellows, just rear.(upper perch)
springs:comptech front and rear

after everything's settled, alignment and prolly firestone firehawks tires(Zrated).

So, I'm thinking my rear will be pretty damn stiff. I know some are skeptic of the 25mm rear sway, but I believe with the konis and comptech springs, there will be less strain on the brackets.

By keeping the stock front shocks, the ride should be overall forgiving. I'm thinking slightly rougher then with just comptech springs(with rear koni favoring a stiffer setting).

I guess it breaks down to, If your rear konis or set stiff, does it affect your ride comfort drastically.

i remember reading that someone had the 25mm Neuspeed rear sways, and ended up busting the bushing mounts because they put too much strain on the bolts. I guess if you do some sort of reinforcing (welding) it was suppose to eliminate the problem.

i guess there are different kinds of firehawks, these are the ones i'm interested in. They got stellar reviews.

as far as brackets breaking, I did see that post, and i am concerned about that. I'm going to see about getting some custom welding done. It's believe that his car was fully loaded, and the wieght was all on one rear wheel. I've heard of 2 TL's with this sway, and one resulted in a broken body mount.

I guess the scenario that would break the mounts is if you had one wheel raised higher then the other ( speed bump, curbs ...)

if you go spring/shock, get all 4 springs and all 4 shocks. no question.

thinking the front will ride better w/ stock shocks is incorrect. no bueno

forget the springs, forget the yellows, forget the rear sway. take the $850 you would have spent on parts and labor and get the teins. then install yourself.

I have a friend who bought those tires because of those very reviews you're talking about. His opinion is that they're only okay, but they do last a good bit.

A general and good rule-of-thumb at predicting a tire's performance intention is its treadwear rating. A high treadwear rating almost invariably means not-very-sticky. And somehow I doubt that Firestone would be allowed to one-up its parent company Bridgestone, nor will they suddenly trump serious competitors Michelin, Goodyear, etc. with a superb performer that outshines with both great traction and terrific treadwear. If it indeed had that, I'd think it'd be badged a Bridgestone.

dont reccomend that setup

the car will be too unbalanced. for the price of the neuspeed rear sway you could get comptechs for both front and rear. comptech springs is a good choice and tokico illuminas are good too. also reccomend the neuspeed front tower bar.

im assuming all the parts you have listed will be about 800-900 dollars. thats how much i spent for comptech springs tokico illuminas neuspeed tower bar and comptech sways plus install of the springs and shocks...

What was your goal?

Without having the benefit of what you were trying to achieve, it is difficult to know if this setup will perform as you expect.

On the surface of it, the setup will make the car very prone to oversteer by stiffening the rear in proportion to the front. The ride will be stiffer in the rear. If you intend to autocross the car, this setup may help it turn more since it is likely to snap oversteer when lifting the throttle.

What exactly are your expectations for the modifications?

tell u this...Comptech sways r DEFINITELY better than Neuspeed's...as for the springs/shocks, there r many combo's to choose from as highlighted above...i have the most conservative setup, Comptech springs on stock shocks, and the ride is fairly unintrusive, but u can definitely get a stiffer suspension using coilovers, Koni's, Neuspeed springs, etc....the Neuspeed upperstrut tie bar is IMO worth getting for some extra front stiffness to complement the front sway bar which is fairly thin compared to the rear

How so? What data do you have to prove this blanket statement, other than a "I have it, everyone else has it, therefore it is better" type of response.

Unless you can provide a link, then I'm going to go ahead and assume you are referring to me. For the past year and half of owning the car and visiting the web boards since day 1, I'm the only person I know of, that have installed the 25mm Neuspeed race bar and have something break because of the sheer gerth of it. If you need further information regarding the subject matter, click on my sig, and follow the story I've posted up on the a-c-u-r-a-w-o-r-l-d site.

But...to answer's beerknurd's initial question, I can vouch that you DO NOT want to install the 25mm race bar by itself. Unlike Comptech, the Neuspeed front sway bar is COMPLETELY solid to make up for the thick rear bar...although the real question is whether or not you can still even buy the Neuspeed bars, since rumor has it that Neuspeed no longer sell the bars to the general public.
