is a supercharger worth it?
#82
I guess the only question that I would like to add to this thread would be - I know it is not necessary to have the e managment system from steve, but what would be the benefits and for those of you who have it what are your thought and those of you who do not, do you wish you had one? Ok so maybe that a couple of questions. Just want to know as I am about to install a used SC on my car and want to cover all my bases. Also any helpful info would be nice as far as what to look for in a used SC. Thank you all in advance.

The only reason for the e-manage with the off-the-shelf Comptech kit is to reduce fuel pressure by increasing pulse width. I'm sure you could pick up a few horsepower with the e-mange. In fact I know for a fact you could. But it wouldn't be worth it IMO. No need to complicate a very simple kit.

hm well my car has 72k miles and still a warranty... i dunno if the comptech sc kit voids that warrranty but i was thinking if it does i should prally wait til after i have over 100k on the car to do it... i want it like now tho!!! hehe

Maybe 4psi through the off-the-shelf comptech kit making 303whp isn't that big of a gain?
Or 6.5 psi through the off-the-shelf comptech kit making 330whp.
Or 6.5psi through the off-the-shelf automatic transmission kit making 295whp... that's not a big gain either is it?
noobs... I tell ya... they get worse every month.
what the fuck are you talking about? 6.5 psi in a turbo kit? what turbo company makes a kit for the tl or cl??? i didnt say that turbos dont make little improvement, i love turbos and they make the most power out of all the forced induction types. turbos by far make the most power and in less psi, i would like to know where you are getting those horsepower ratings and psi numbers from???? do you have any other information to back up your claims???

No turbo company makes a turbo kit for the CL-S. They're all custom turbo setups. I believe Allmotor pioneered turbos in our cars, not sure though. Search for his posts, you'll get a lot of info there.

Hey noob chill the fuck out. Yes 6.5psi on a turbo set up. It isn't a kit. It's a custom setup using a GT35R.
Want some information to back it up? Do a search.

tuning is a MUST in california if you are running the HBP. stock pulley in CA should be fine. but i was detonating everytime i went WOT, with or without IMRC. 91 octane cant cut it with over 5 psi
everywhere else that gets 93 or better, you can do without tuning.

I recently went to re-tune my setup. At 10psi, the car makes 464whp. We started out at 4.5psi to set the afr and at that psi, the car made 330 whp.
you really should do a search....

OK, I'm sold. In fact there is a used Supercharger setting on the bench in my garage right now.
A question for those of you that have gone this route (and I have searched) - how necessary is the transmission cooler (for the automatic). It's not that I am trying to be cheap, but as I look through all of the SC threads, I see only a few mentions of tranny coolers.
I get that the trans is likely to frag cooler or not and in fact, SC or not. Just trying to decide if I should bother.
PS, I will "only" be running the low boost pulley.
Thanks!

If you lose 15% of your crank HP to drivetrain loss, a majority of that will end up as heat in the tranny. If you gain 60-70hp with the SC, you've got around 10hp worth of heat energy that needs to be disapated in some form. The tranny cooler will help do this and pull some of the heat load off of the radiator so it can focus on cooling the motor.
It may not keep a tranny from dying but it sure won't hurt. Just the improvement in driveability is worth it.

I fabricated brackets out of alluminum and mounted similar to Comptech. Comptech uses the B&M cooler in their kit also. Go to the Comptech site and look at the installation instructions for their tranny cooler to get an idea.

OK, the tranny cooler's in, the gauges are hooked up (lights, wiring ran), the fan shroud is modified, and the custom radiator hose is in. I gotta hit the road for a couple of weeks, but hope to answer the question "is it worth it?" by the 4th of July.
I'm doing the Scalbert method (a little work each evening, drive during the day).
Any advice from the SCer's on this dinky battery thing? I've read the thread on the Odyssey dry battery, and I'll probably go that way, although I want to see what the highest CCA 51-R is that I can find. I think that the stock battery, relocated to the trunk would be best, but a total PIA to do.

I would recommend using Amsoil synthetic ATF instead of Redline. As far as I know Redline doesn't state that they meet Honda Z1 specs but Amsoil does. I don't know of anyone that's had a problem with Redline but why introduce another unknown. When I flushed my tranny, I went through 10 quarts and had clean fluid pumping out the tranny cooler lines.
