Supercharger w/o Engine Management?

Supercharger w/o Engine Management?

Do people run the HBP without any engine management? I think thats fairly common, but I just want to make sure.

I just need to drive it 50 miles to a tuner shop and they will install the FIC and I should be safe from there, but I am somewhat concerned abut the drive there.

Any other big ticket items I need to take care of? There is no IMRC, as I replaced the manifold with an intercooler.

its safe as long as you stay out of boost.

I'd like to know this as well. 93 octane in Chicago is readily available so I'd think that would help but am not sure.
Skilled, where'd you get your intercooler from?
I was thinking about getting the AEM F/IC but didn't know if anyone on this board successfully tuned a car with it so I was going to go with the E-Manage Blue.

93 octane and shift at 3200rpm. Your air fuel will get to piston popping lean in a hurry at WOT and especially on the high cam lobe without something else at the helm if it's like any other Honda I've seen on 7lbs....

You should disconnect the IMRC from what i have read...

There isn't an IMRC, I took off the manifold.

I scooped out the intercooler off a board member. I think there is one left in the black market, but the guy was completely irrational about pricing so I looked else where.

I know people have yet to have success with the FIC, but that was my tuners suggestion and he said that he has done Motorola ECUs and while they can be finicky, its doable. I was just going to drop it off and hope for the best. We'll see what happens, I dont really have the time to dig into it in great detail myself.

I am obviously not planning on driving it like I stole it to the tuner. At what rpms do you start seeing boost? its a positive displacement supercharger, so I imagined it was always at boost.

Do NOT have the IMRC connected with the HBP until you get tuned. Keep it under 3500 RPMs and you should be okay. I don't think many people have had much success with anything besides the Emanage Blue.

Nothing is safe until you are running a wideband in real time. You can drive it with out an aftermarket ecu as long as you know what your A/F is at all times. How else do you know if you are not running lean? Willing to risk your engine for that? I know I would not, to close to your goal to cut corners now.

I would worry about anything over 12.6 at WOT

You will be absolutely fine driving it across the country so long as you do not go into boost. Getting a flatbed is just wasting money and completely overkill. Just drive it like a grandpa and you can not harm anything. Even if you do go into boost the chances of you doing any harm are slim. The damage occurs from going WOT over and over again from the knock of a lean motor. You can’t harm it if you drive like a grandpa. Just don’t floor it or go into the high RPM. There are several members who have run the HBP without tuning. Some blew a piston after several months of driving hard without a tune. Some had no damage at all.

If your tuner needs help with the FIC call me. I am doing the same thing. I think I have the FIC cracked for this car but I am not sure yet. I cant test it since I am leaving the country for a week in the morning. Jim
